Terrible experience. A bit like a carry on film, so we did end up laughing our way through the meal … until the bill came and it was 125 pounds for 6 of us, and we barely ate anything as it was uneditable (and we had one glass of wine and the rest soft drinks)
Along with the currys being ridiculously too sweet for any of us to eat (we ordered the Tikka Massala, Lamb Massala and Korma of the feast menu) We had found some straw and a bit of hair in one of the currys, and a used chunk of lemon in the Korma.
We gave our feedback throughout the meal, and spoke with the waitress at the end, as well as what we believe to be the manager. The waitress wasn’t too fussed, and said she would pass on the feedback (which we know she didn’t) and the manager was angry at us for saying anything. I did say I was going to write a review, to which he didn’t seem overly fussed! Shame. It was for my Mums birthday, and although we had a laugh because what else can you do - we did also leave feeling disappointed and frustrated that they didn’t care about our experience or the food they served us 😞 We...
Read moreA Thursday night in January, my 70th birthday, and I was in March with my grown up children following a funeral earlier that day. Unfortunately our first choice of restaurant (as recommended by my brother) was fully booked so we came to the Spice Bank.
My son is vegetarian and doesn't drink, so asked for a pint of no-alcohol Cobra. When the 660ml bottle arrived, we soon saw it was the standard 4.5%, so he switched to water and my daughter and I shared the lager.
Next problem: no vegetarian menu whatsoever, so we choose a selection from the starters and sides menu together with a couple of pilau rice and a naan. The onion bhajis were cricket ball sized and ok, a little stodgy in places, and the vegetable samosas were good. The rest were various potato dishes, not particularly well spiced.
Last problem - no heating. Man it was cold in there, only us and one other table.
Would I...
Read moreI was the only one in the restaurant (late & midweek so no great surprise) so.ignore the 1 star.
It's in decent spot on the high street & the decor is unique & looks expensive. I had read some mixed reviews & hoped for the best.
The menu had no descriptions of the dish so I was relying on memory of 30+ dishes to make a decision. The service was nice & friendly but the food was standard cheapo curry.
The chicken wasn't freshly cooked & the colour of the sauce matched all the review photos (meaning each dish is just a stock sauce modified to suite some general ' recipe'.. as in; sauce + loads of onions = Jalfrezi. Sauce & ++ chilli = vindaloo). The rice was multi coloured with food colouring taking me back 1990's Ladypool Road.
I now know why this place was quiet because I have eaten at the Napali restaurant...
