The UK is chock-a-block with "Indian" restaurants, less than 1% of these in my opinion are exceptional. Sourav Ki Rasoi (translation Sourav's Kitchen) at the moment would likely be securely well in this 1%. Why you ask? Well quite a few reasons why. Firstly it's not your run of the mill Indian takeaway with hundreds of items made with parboiled proteins hurriedly tossed together is a bog standard base gravy. The menu is focused, regional and each item cooked in it's own recipe from scratch. Secondly, with the regional focus, they have stuck to authentic recipes and not tried to water it down to suit Western palletes, in fact it's evident that Sourav doesn't even attempt to make it suit the different Indian palletes. My wife didn't like the Pani Puri, because she's from a different part of India but I loved it as it was spot on on flavour from where I've had it, and although the Mrs didn't like it she knew immediately where this flavour pallete was from - and I think this approach to preserving authenticity is what works at Sourav Ki Rasoi. Our first time at this small cosy place, and we started off with the mango lassi for our 2 yr old, which was fine. The place does a kadak chai and a masala chai and if you like chai, go for the kadak which was superb - and served to us in cup reminiscent of the earthen cups that street side chai used to be served in parts of India. Starters were Pani Puri, but probably more accurate title for this recipe would be "Phuchka" - super tangy, nicely chilled with a hint of mint - almost 5 ⭐ s except that the puris were the more common type and the potatoes could have been the less dry variety. The bhel Puri (spicy puffed rice) was as good as any off the streets of Calcutta, a definite must try. Then the mains, the show stoppers. We had the Goat Kosha, slow cooked goat so tender that it just falls off the bone on the gentlest touch. Could have been a tad more on the 🌶️ side but it's still 5 ⭐ as it is. Second main for us was the Prawn Malai Curry, which was just perfect, the right balance of sweet and savoury, the right amount coconuty and the best part jumbo prawns cooked in shell - just like the best places do it from where this recipe comes from. Portions were more than generous, basmati rice cooked kernel perfect and the naans just fine as well. I'm tempted to reveal the regional inclination of this menu, but I think if you are truly an Indian cuisine lover, go and discover it yourself, if you haven't figured it out already! It was an absolute pleasure to be able to enjoy this type of cuisine and we will surely go back....

Read moreWe had such a fantastic meal for my birthday at Saurav Ki Rasoi. The name means Saurav’s Kitchen in Hindi, and that’s exactly how it feels – as though you’re being welcomed into the chef’s own home. The food was absolutely delicious – full of authentic flavours and served in wonderfully generous portions.
You can tell this is a passionate couple running the restaurant; their warmth and genuine welcome make the whole experience personal and inviting.
If, like us, you’d love to work your way through the menu, a little tip is to skip the poppadoms (they’re more crisp-like than traditional) and the starter – that way you’ll save some room for the main event, which is where the real magic is.
For our mains we enjoyed Kolhapur Chicken, Pork Vindaloo, Chicken Supreme Makhani, plus naans, jeera and peas pulao, and the most delicious coconut rice.
Highly recommended if you’re looking for authentic, home-style Indian cooking in...
