Antico Birtley at The Board Inn — Restaurant in Gateshead

Been here a couple of times before and it's always been nice, but we won't be back after tonight. Came here for an early valentines meal as we're working tomorrow. Unceremoniously dumped at our table to start with with no particularly warm greetings (we had booked). Starter came very quickly after ordering, and was followed by our main pretty much as soon as our plates were cleared. Food was nice but not out-of-this-world. Plates were cleared away as soon as we'd finished our mains, and then we waited.... And waited... And waited. It then became apparent that coffee or dessert were not on the menu this evening for us. All the while , the owner and waitress very noisily dried and put away glassware and cutlery from the kitchen, having a moan to each other as they did, and kept their backs to the restaurant so we couldn't catch their attention. Whilst waiting another unhappy customer, having clearly had the same treatment, had to go to the bar and ask for coffee for him and his wife. At this point my partner asked for the bill, which was presented all too quickly without any emotion or conversation. At no point throughout our meal were we asked if everything was OK. Shocking service! When we arrived there were no more than 10 tables full, and all with small parties. By the time we left only 3 tables were filled, ours included, so this poor service cannot be blamed on the staff being overworked in...

what an awful experience we have had. It started so well got served with drinks and shown to table. we ordered shortly after our starters were really nice. My husband ordered the top price steak to then be served smothered in sauce rather than on the side. The steak was fatty not to his taste. The waiter came across quite aggressive with us he was right we were wrong. Left it at that then got the bill not really enjoying my meal either to then have argument with the so called waiter telling us to leave promptly as he didn't want other customers upset, I find this really upsetting and annoying too. We rarely don't get a night out but this was our 10th wedding anniversary and very very disappointed. We left the restaurant I asked another member of staff for the waiter name to be told I can't remember and being shrugged off absolutely shocking behaviour this really is...

We visited this restaurant with friends 2 weeks ago but this is the 1st chance I have had to write my review. We had booked the table for 8pm and were shown to the table in a very unfriendly manner. This was the theme of the evening!! We had starters and mains which to be honest were very average, nothing special, I could have made better at home and wish I had. 2 gentlemen/ waiters kept pacing backwards and forwards waiting for us to finish which made us feel very uncomfortable. After they took our main meal dishes away we sat, and sat, and sat and after over half an hour realised we were not going to be offered deserts or coffees.we asked for the bill which was brought to the table in about 30 seconds. They couldn't wait for us to leave. I would never go back. If you want a relaxing evening with nice food give this...
