There were 4 of us out for a birthday meal. We ordered 3 beef carveries and a main house salad and 2 soda water and lime and 2 refill drinks.
When the drinks arrived the waitress placed the drinks on the table by holding the glasses by the rim. I had to clean the glasses before use. While the rest of the party were waiting at the carvery, my salad arrived. A large amount of the carrot ribbons were just the peel of the carrot and the lettuce was brown and old looking. I don’t mind the peel off the carrot but to charge £7.49 for the waste product of the carvery vegetables is quite abhorrent.
While the rest of the party started eating their carveries they very quickly noticed that the beef was so fatty it was inedible, all three struggled to cut through it. When we complained to the waitress about the beef she questioned whether they were told about the possibility that the beef could be fatty, they were not advised of this. The waitress apologised and implied she was going to speak to a manager. After quite a period of time we had to call the waitress back over and ask for the bill. At which point we again had to mention the issue with the beef. She again went to speak to the manager who could only offer take the difference between a normal carvery and a vegetarian carvery, was taken off the bill, only 2 of 3 carveries despite all three not eating their meat. We paid for the meal, as we did not want to ruin the meal as it was a birthday celebration. It was at this point the attitude of the waitress was shocking, there was no social niceties anymore, she was rude and just didn’t not even acknowledge we were there or even that she had just had any sort of interaction with her. Overall the experience was very disappointing the food that was served was sub-par. The fact that it wasn’t known especially after the pandemic not to pass glasses by the rim of the glass and the sheer attitude of the waitress really makes me feel like I don’t want to return to Toby carvery. I have had similar experiences in the past however this one I just felt...
Read moreWe ate at your carvery on two nights, although you have not sent me a questionnaire about our second visit. As both meals were less than satisfactory I'll make reference to both here.
Yory staff were generally unfriendly and unhelpful. It seemed as if is was a nuisance to serve us. This was more noticeable on our second night but was also noticeable on our first visit. At one point on our first visit one of the waiters was very abrupt when I tried to use the discount code you'd sent me - that says valid Monday to Saturday on the main screen - and he told me to look under booking conditions to see that bank holidays were excluded.
Your food was mediocre. On the Saturday night my partner had the salmon and dill wellington. Whilst this looked to be big there was almost no salmon in it. When we complained the waitress said that was just how they came and gave the impression she couldn't be bothered and, when we asked to see the msamanger, the waitress came back to say there was nothing she could do.
On the Friday night I asked the waitress to add a gratuity to my account. She heard me because she questioned me but she couldn't be bothered to add the tip.
On the saturday night there were a couple of peas left on the windowsill by our table. As the restaurant was very quiet I suspect they'd been there from the previous night. We moved them onto the next, vacant, tble. When this table was cleared the peas were just left there.
Despite the fact that we had sowwm out loyalty apps there was no attempt made on our first night to credit us with the visit. When we asked on the second we were told that it was too late for us to do anything about it - by a waiter with the attitude that it would actually be too much trouble for him.
These are the main points that I found unsatisfactory. There were a lot more points where you could have done far better.
Suffice to say we were less than satisfied on each night.
Toby Carveries asked for this review so I have copied and pasted what I wrote...
Read moreNot a good experience as someone with coeliac disease. Signed a waver so I could see what I was able to eat but got up to get the food at the carvery and watched the guy dishing out meat to customers but touching the Yorkshire puddings with the utensils whilst doing so. Could have massively reduced risk of cross contamination by giving customers the Yorkshire pudding after serving up the meat.
I was told they could make me separate meal, but waited over half an hour and by that time my family had all finished. Food arrived but I'd been given the most fatty looking and small portions of each meat, one slice of each which didnt even look like a full slice, more like an off cut that would be given to a dog.
Asked if I could have a little extra meat given the size of the bits I had, and given I had much less options of other food items. Next thing a manager approaches our table asking how he can help/what the issue is? which was really odd. I had only asked for a bit more meat and not complaining or being rude. I was not offered any more meat but told "we'll sort it on your bill at the end", which defeats the point and was not honoured. A wierd experience.
Waitress was polite but dont understand why a manager was asked to speak to us after requesting a little more meat.
My family enjoyed their food but a bad experience as someone...
