I visited Wagamama in the Metro Centre on 7th May 2022, it was my first time in any Wagamama despite several attempts to get there, it was a Child free weekend so we thought we would take the opportunity and give it a whirl.
While lining up to get into the restaurant a man was handing out menus and took the time to speak to us, on being told that it was out first time there, he made several suggestions for first timers and happily spent time talking to us, it transpires that this Gent was actually the restaurant Manager (we discovered later).
After only a few minute wait, we were seated and introduced to our Waiter, a nice Guy named Jack. Jack was also aware that we were first time customers and again was happy to offer advice on the menu items and also, crucially, the portion sizes. Drinks arriving quickly with the food following soon after with Jack making sure that the food arrived quickly. We followed the previous advice and ordered Duck Donburi and Chicken Teriyaki Donburi as well as the Hoisin Duck Buns as a side order.
The food was incredible.....we both ate every last scrap and left the restaurant full. We then had a quick chat with the Manager who took time to re-visit our table to find out, as first time customers, what we'd ordered, what we'd thought of the food and also the service. Thankfully I was able to give him great feedback. the food, Jack who served us, everything had been 100% perfect and also confirmed with him that we would happily return to his restaurant. In fact, not 6 days later, we are already making plans to do so, the meal was THAT good.
To sum up, I would and will, happily return. The restaurant was clean, the staff were friendly and the Manager seemed to take a real interest in new customers and their experience which is always a good sign.
Thanks Jack and all the Team who dealt with us on our first meal there.....we...
Read moreTypical high street restaurant. Table of four. Ordered sides and were told that they may be brought out at seperate times or even after main meals were served. All sides were brought before main meals however at all different times. People who ordered after us received their meals before our sides we delivered. This was not an issue at first as this had been explained and we we were ok with this.
Four main meals did not arrive, in fact one main meal did not arrive at all. Two main meals arrived together. Whilst my companions were eating their meals and two thirds through my own meal arrived. I began eating my meal, two others had finished their meal with no sign of the fourth members meal. Someone from our party approached the counter where they were serving drinks and asked when the fourth meal would be arriving to be entertained with the words of , " It will be there when it is cooked". No apologies given whatso ever. Myself then left my meal and proceeded to pay for the food and drinks we had. I explained we had not had the fourth meal to which no apology was given however we did receive a grunt from the lady behind the counter stating your food would be there when it was cooked. £72 pounds was paid which I would not mind paying but absolute awful service from this branch and to be frank the chicken was very hard and overheld. When leaving another employee had the audacity to thank us for our custom. Appalling. I am not sure of the direction they have in the kitchen area, or how they think it is ok for a family to receive meals at sepearte times, and I mean thirty minutes for main meals, or why the front of house staff think this is ok. Not one apology from very rude staff and who do not care for your...
Read moreMy experience at Wagamama in Gateshead was a delightful fusion of flavors and a unique dining concept that left a lasting impression. Situated in a bustling area, the restaurant's modern and minimalist design immediately caught my eye, setting the stage for what turned out to be a fantastic meal.
The menu was an exciting blend of Asian-inspired dishes, showcasing a variety of noodle and rice-based creations, as well as other delectable options. The diverse offerings made it easy for both meat-eaters and vegetarians to find something they'd enjoy. The open kitchen added an element of excitement, allowing diners to witness their meals being prepared with skill and precision.
One highlight was the ramen – a true standout. The depth of flavors in the broth, the tender meat, and the perfectly cooked noodles made for a comforting and satisfying bowl. The sides and appetizers were equally impressive; the gyoza and edamame were perfect companions to the main courses.
The communal seating arrangement gave the restaurant a lively and social vibe, though it might not suit those seeking a more private dining experience. The staff was friendly and accommodating, offering prompt service and recommendations based on personal preferences.
However, on busier evenings, the noise level did tend to rise, potentially affecting conversations. Despite this, the overall experience was exceptional.
In conclusion, Wagamama in Gateshead presented a unique dining adventure, blending flavors, textures, and a vibrant atmosphere. Whether you're a fan of Asian cuisine or seeking a novel dining experience, this restaurant is worth a visit for its innovative dishes and...
