Wow! We were a group of 7 (3 kids inc) and we were all blown away by the quality and efficiency of how well the Afternoon Tea was. We had a slight hiccup but the staff were great at resolving it and it didn't hugely affect our experience or afternoon. We took a gamble going here and boy were we glad we did, my auntie and mum were particularly impressed and very happy to plan their next trip back already!! I called up to make the booking only the day before, made a few requests on types of sandwiches and scones, and it was just as Catherine had explained on the call, her suggestions were super helpful and appreciated too especially when ordering for kids. The cafe itself was nice and modern and cozy too, as we were quite a big group with kids we were a bit loud now and then (as you'd expect) and we did notice some of the other patrons were not too impressed with this so we tried to keep it down as much as we could. Clean toilets which I think were shared with the cathedral visitors too but enough and pleasant enough. I definitely recommend this and would definitely like to come back for the right occasion. Thank you again to all the team there today you made it a special time for us all xx

Perfect for a traditional treat. When I want a quick drink and cake I bypass all the national chains and head here. Drinks, both hot and cold, are the standard fare though the pot of tea is always my choice as it makes two good cups. They're not stingy with the milk either. However, the cake selection is varied and always a little different from other places. I usually find something I've not had before. For one small family celebration, we ordered in advance: cream tea and sandwiches for five people. Generous portions, presented beautifully. We just about managed it all. Prices are about right for a city centre café but nothing can match the interior decor and the general vibe of the place. The old pew seating might look comfortable but always numbs my nether regions after a while. YMMV. Call ahead, if you can, as it can get crowded, especially in Summer.

We stopped here with our grandchildren after our visit to the Cathedral. Simple lunch menu sandwiches, jacket potatoes cream & savoury teas etc. The children were pleased with their mini monks lunchbox, I chose the full monks bacon & stilton sandwich (plus crisps cake & drink). Fairly priced restricted seating inside, it was a nice so we chose an outside table.

Was disappointed with our visit. Came here as I saw a post online saying it was toddler friendly and they had a little area with a sofa and toys but that must have been out of date as this wasn't the case. We came in after the main lunchtime rush (about 2.15) but had to wait in line for ages to order. There was only one poor lady on the till also making all the drinks etc. A lot of options were unavailable, no paninis or brown bread for example. Poor selection of dietary restriction friendly options (only one vegan cake which was a blackcurrant crumble). My dairy, egg, soya and garlic allergic boy couldn't have anything at all from the menu, not even bread (not totally unusual but disappointing all the same). Food when it came was bland - edible and fine but nothing to write home about. The toilets weren't great (smelt strongly of urine) and baby changing room felt dirty....
