It's rumoured that Jimi Hendrix wrote his hit Voodoo Child whilst enjoying a small bowl of ice cream in Wholly Gelato. The wonderful people who work there seemed to realise that something really big was going down and left Jimi to do his thing, thoughtful young ladies. Took me an age to find, mostly due to my own stupidity, even wandered into the gaff below before being pointed in the right direction. Up. Relaxed atmosphere, made me feel at home, serving a pretty decent coffee ☕️ with an acceptable amount of swirliness on the top. A friend of mine said I should have a ....... sounded like avocado 🥑, but it wasn't. Shame I couldn't remember 'cos my mate said they're pretty special at Wholly Gelato, particularly the banana ones. Something to do with ice cream with coffee poured on top. I remember now! It's affogato! Think I'll write that on the back of my hand to remind me next time I'm in Gloucester. Loads of other munchables...
Read moreLove Wholly Gelato but the service today was pretty terrible and not allergen safe. I asked if the two ice cream flavours I wanted were gluten free - making clear I'm gluten free. When it was confirmed that they were the server asked if I wanted a (gluten) cone??? And then without asking put a gluten waffle in the ice cream. I said I'm sorry but you're going to have to start over because I can't eat gluten. She didn't apologise and gave me a foul look. One of my friend was so unimpressed she left. They did do-over but with zero apology or any acknowledgement of how serious allergies are. So great ice cream but poor and rude service on this occasion and the staff need proper allergen training. Especially given the news story this week about a poor woman dying because of a similar lacklustre approach to dealing...
Read moreFantastic food, reasonable prices, will definitely come again. The gelato is so thick and creamy, it's absolutely delicious. A good range of flavours too. Although we didn't specifically ask if there were any, we couldn't see any obvious dairy free options. The shop is small and has quite limited seating, most of which consists of high stools and one small table with 2 chairs . However, if the day is nice, there's plenty of seating in the docks that you could go and have your ice cream with a beautiful view. The venue is wheelchair accessible but the lift to the food dock can be a bit temperamental. Twice, I've been unable to use it. No fault of Wholly Gelato but just a general warning for those who want to visit that need lift access. Definitely a place to visit if you're in the area. Can't wait...
