Very disappointing....
The good points tasty soup of the day, lovely moist cake.
The downside... Inconsiderate staff; we sat at a table very close to the tillpoint area, so we didnāt have peopleās bottoms literally touching us whilst we sat we moved the table slightly where there was plenty of room to do so, therefore not feeling quite so uncomfortable when beginning to eat, a member of staff called to us that we couldnāt do that as they needed to get to the cupboard that was there, we said that there was room to get through but really didnāt want people touching us with their bottoms whilst eating!!! At which point a look of distaste and was dismissed by that staff member.
Soup delivered to table in very shallow bowls and soup was so full it very nearly over the edge, very uncomfortable to watch...
As we were still eating was asked could they clear out plates, surely plates arenāt cleared until that person has completely finished their meal.
A cheese scone was ordered and a very bizarre scone arrived a long time after ordering (during a quieter period in the tea room) a scone arrived with a square piece of cheese partially melted (not attractive or appetising) looked very odd!
Latte coffees sent back as quite clearly the young lady that made them initially was not trained as she was told not to do something when making our coffees but when they arrived at the table there was no layered look and it was looking very anaemic. There was no taste to these coffees, weak, and watery. Returned partially remade, so now extremely hot (burnt my tongue) an extra shoot of coffee and boiled milk added.... not how coffee should be.... and definitely not a latte (Maybe should have remembered the premises name āthe tea roomsā as coffees arenāt their speciality:-/ )
Such a shame as I love supporting local businesses and was looking forward to this visit but left thinking how could something relatively simple nothing complicated was ordered could have gone so horribly wrong...
Will look to try other tea rooms in the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited for the first time today with my partner and our three-month-old daughter, and it will certainly be our last.
Despite there being three empty tables when we arrived, we were told they were āreservedāāa claim that quickly seemed dubious. Each time a table became free, it too was marked as reserved. We stayed for 30 mins, and those supposedly reserved tables remained empty the entire time.
Meanwhile, our three-month-old baby was forced to endure freezing weather outside. While I understand Saturdays are busy, it is baffling that management could not show the basic consideration to let us use one of these empty tables, at least temporarily, to keep our baby warm. It is inexcusable to prioritise holding empty tables over the well-being of a young child, especially when those tables remained unoccupied the entire time we were there.
We were told we would be allowed inside once a table was free, yet as we sat shivering outside, we watched table after table collect dust. By the time a table finally opened up, we had already finished our visit.
To top it off, we paid Ā£11.50 for two mochas and a slice of cake that looked and tasted like something from a wholesale warehouse like Costco. For that price, we expected much better quality. This wasnāt a matter of being entitled. I understand the challenges of hospitality, but common sense and decency should have prevailed. Allowing a family with a young baby to take an unused, empty table temporarily isnāt a difficult or unreasonable ask. Instead, we experienced poor management, lackluster service, and disappointing food.
I would not recommend this establishment to parents with young children or anyone expecting decent service and quality for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst time we as a group of 6! Have visited this establishment. We usually go too the penguin cafe round the corner on the sea front . We are the walkie Talkie walking group of gosport . As the other reviews have stated the service is excellent the food is very good and they do make a lovely pot of tea :) But .... as of Monday they really are not following the new covid rules :( The cafe was too crowded even for the 1meter rule .they didnāt have the square icon thingy for signing in via our phones ..when challenged they said we sign you in at payment and take one name per group which is the old rules .. now itās every single persons details which is why the phone signing in is so important too smaller businesses with less staff as it obviously takes the strain off the business .as people sign in as they arrive and sit at their tables .. on day on 14th we were in Bognor at the London road coffee house and the staff their absolutely nailed it .. they even helped us set up our phones so we could sign in .. in all fairness they are a bigger establishment and had more time ? As I say the venue is lovely the staff are great the food is good and fairly priced but they loose a star for not following the new rules guidllines...
