Very poor. Came in here at 4.30pm, nothing ready. Never in my life have I had to wait 25 mins for a piece of cod to be cooked. They kept telling me it would be just a couple of mins more. I sat at the tables waiting for half an hour, whilst getting dirty looks from the women behind the counter who seemed more interested in flirting with other customers. In the meantime other customers came in and were served and Just Eat driver was able to take cod away for delivery. I kept telling them my bus was at 5pm and I was going to miss it. Manager came out of the back and said sorry, they had 'forgotten' to put the cod on and I should not have been waiting this long and gave me a drink of water. They then unbelievably ran out of chips when the cod was finally cooked. As I walked down the road, my bus went past and I had to wait an hour for another one. The meal itself was awful. The chips were barely cooked and tasted of hot water, the cod was oily and greasy and stuck to the paper. No proper batter, just a soggy mess that tasted horrible. They also 'forgot' to give me the bread roll I had paid for despite me asking the two girls if it was in the bag, which they had said yes it was. Not what I would expect for nearly 9 quid and most of it was inedible. I won't be returning here and I'm very disappointed, especially as people are commenting here about the 'best chips in Gravesend' and have posted pics of lovely, bubbly battered cod - this was not my experience at all and my cod looked and tasted more like a...
Read moreI have been going to the Reliance for over 35 years. Not very often, but it my "Go To" Chippy, not only because it is one of the very few proper Chippies left, but it is the "Doggies Dangly Bits"! I used to take my sons for a Saturday treat. (They are now 36-47 years old). The astounding thing is.... It is the same chap running the show! He has been there for 40 years, so no wonder the standards have stayed the same. I met up with an old friend and we had the O.A.P. Haddock and Chips, a pot of Mushy Peas and two teas. Although it looked small at first, it really filled us up. The Haddock was lovely. Skin On, white flakes of really moist flavoursome fish. The batter was very crisp and light, I used to like heavy batter, but this was outstanding. The chips.... Well, what can you say. Really Chippy Chips. Different sizes, big ones small ones and little crispy ones that put my dentures to the test, but they were lovely. The Mushy Peas were an eye watering £3.00. You have to be good to yourself every now and then, and we don't go that often, so it was money well spent. These people have a struggle to make a living these days because the "Modern Society" go for McD, and other rubbish food that is indoctrinated into their simple minds; so I am more than happy to stump up a few quid to keep them going. Oh by the way, the Tea was great too. Can't beat a cup of tea with your fish and chips, and the place was 100% clean. See you again soon folks, and...
Read moreHad a takeaway from here this evening firstly I ordered large huss x 2 with 1 portion of chips.... £19.20... when I looked in the bag fish looked like medium piece cut in half... I complained there and then & was offered additional fish to make up for it or a refund on one piece of fish... I took the £7.60 refund.... as couldn't wait for fish to be cooked.... Got home to discover thick pappy batter not cooked properly.... threw the lot in the bin..... What is dissapointing about this more than the total money loss is this fish shop is over 100years old I use to go here as a kid im 58 now....this shop really use to be worth a visit with a great heritage of high standards....
Unfortunately my experience today was appalling....such a shame as this place use to be something...
