The Rum Puncheon Gravesend — Restaurant in Gravesham

What a gem in Gravesend! I've driven past this building and never popped in until yesterday. A humming hive , such a warm welcome by the lovely staff... Clean spacious toilets ( important for us girls) and the decor is not something you'd expect for a bar in Gravesend. Despite there being a big birthday party in there we had plenty choice of tables to sit at and a garden over looking the river. They have a function room upstairs (just being redecorated for a wedding) so we didn't see that but if it is anything like the bar area then with their upper terrace view over the river you'd be sure to have a glass of something lovely with a nice relaxing view to accompany. By far the nicest bar we've been in for a while all due to the whole package and the wonderful bar team there. We will definately pay the Rum Puncheon again, well worth a visit after a long walk along the canal from Higham...

Used to be one of the best pubs in Gravesend. On the evidence of last night not any more. Don't know if they'd had delivery issues, but there was only one real ale on tap and the fridges were almost empty. In fairness the one ale available was OK, hence two stars rather than one. Friend I was with asked for disaronno and coke. The "disaronno" was clearly not proper disaronno but some cheap imitation, while the draught coke had something wrong with it meaning it just tasted like carbonated water. Attended a birthday party in the upstairs hall. The food provided by the pub looked amazing. The 2 young bartenders were very lovely. We bought our own music via a speaker and playing off a phone. So not DJ or band volume! At 10.50 the landlord approached a guest regarding the music, he was rather rude , unprofessional and with a threatening attitude told him to turn the music off NOW. He put a dampner on what was a brilliant night. I would never recommend this pub to anyone having a private party. There is simply no need to speak to paying guests in this manner.
