Went here last night with a friend, we are both Italian food lovers. We were warmly welcomed and had a nice chat with the owner about our food choices.

Gaetano the owner recommended us the ideal wine to pair with our starter and main course choices, which were mussels for my friend and provolone affunicato for me, we both opted for spaghetti bolognese for our main.

Both courses were delicious and although I was to full for dessert my friend ordered and enjoyed the rum baba cake.

Finally my friend phoned his wife to ask if she and his daughter would like a take away, he asked gaetano to take her through the menu options on the phone, which he duly did and they ordered meals they really enjoyed.

Our overall experience was fantastic, the food is fairly priced and the service personal and impeccable, I would urge any Italian food lovers to give this little gem a try, you won't be...

This is the best Italian restaurant my wife and I have experienced in our 25 years in Cardiff. I read the reviews and can confidently say that all, with the exception of one outlier, were spot on. The pasta was made the day we visited and was as good as I have ever tasted. The antipasto selection made our mouths water, and the fish dishes were moist and perfectly cooked for us. The deserts were amazing. I enjoyed a bottle of Sicilian lager from a brewer I had not previously heard of. (Messina) It was a revelation to my jaded palate and easily the best Italian beer I have tasted. We were treated like old friends on arrival by Gaetano, the owner, his nephew, Michaeli and waiter Kenzi. On departure, we were thanked like valued guests. Overall, it was a truly...

I suggested to a group of 5 friends that we give this new restaurant a try, despite my misgivings about the name. We were all delighted with our experience and given that all 6 of us had mostly different starters and mains there was not a disappointing dish that we chose. Full marks to the Chef and also to the front of house staff who gave excellent service. 4 marks for atmosphere only because it was a quiet Tuesday night. Talking to the team it is clear that they all have extensive experience and I recommend this new, independent, addition to Cardiff's culinary scene. Finally, I was the one of the group with gluten, lactose and garlic issues and they dealt with them easily and...

We visited A Pin of Salt today and had a fantastic experience. The food was absolutely delicious — I had the black ravioli with crab, and my partner had ravioli with aubergine and smoked cheese. Both dishes were full of flavour and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were genuinely friendly, happy to explain the dishes and accommodate dietary needs. A real gem in Cardiff for Italian food lovers — we’ll definitely be back!

For one night only I stayed in Cardiff for work, and was determined to find an authentic, independent Italian restaurant for the evening. I was so glad to come across A Pin of Salt! Lovely hospitality from the owner, I liked that the menu wasn’t overwhelming and the pasta is all fresh and cooked to order. I’ve been to different parts of Italy over the years and it really did feel like I was dining there.

Found this little gem by good luck. From the moment we walked in, until we left was a positive experience and we were made to feel special. A concise but interesting menu with lovely specials. Everything we ate here was good, with the homemade quality of the food standing out. A stand out in all my recent dining experiences.
