Brilliant vibe, service and food!
Feta cheese filo pastry starter was an absolute melody of flavours - a reasonably simple dish turned into something so mouth watering. The salmon risotto was equally stunning - it's been several days and I'm still salivating at the thought. Had the truffle cheese chips side and found a very generous serving of parmesan and truffle dusted throughout and not just a smattering on top, and was not overpowering as those flavours can be.
Also in our group, we had a taste of the butternut squash ravioli which despite me not liking butternut squash was still perfectly cooked pasta and sauce. Even the main diner of it didn't expect it to be so flavoursome. Others enjoyed a perfectly cooked steak and a delicious duck.
The chocolate cheesecake was the richest experience of my life, and combined with the heavy slab of caramel on top and honeycomb oieces, I had to exercise portion control rapidly as I started to feel off. It was however, really tasty and quite a challenge to resist. Others liked the brioche/bread pudding, and the joyously stinky cheese board - upon recovery front hedge brief overeating of caramel, I wolfed down some of the tastiest blue cheese over ever eaten.
All this was washed down with a Jungle Juice mocktail which may have had an entire bush of mint in it, which was a bit much and was improved by quickly removing.
The staff were so professional, courteous and swiftly righted a small mistake with the drinks order. The quiet music, the lighting, the decor all added to a really nice vibe about the place. Food presented as in the photos online, and further demonstrates professional talent.
At nearly £250 for four (albeit the few wines, steak, cheese board take that cost up over the average dish/drink), this isn't a cheap place to dine out but it excels in everything it does and was definitely worth it. I will be heading here on night one next time I'm...
Read moreAn extremely disappointing, frustrating and overpriced experience.
Went to Alverne with my partner for a tagliatelle and risotto only to find ourselves hungry and frustrated more than an hour and a half later with still no food. For a Tuesday evening with very little diners and being in Cornwall on holiday, that is absolutely unacceptable.
Over 40 minutes later, a couple were sat next to us, who received their mains and left before we even received our meals or an apology. After raising our concerns with the staff, they were unwillingly forced to provide the usual, over-rehearsed, insincere ‘apology’. We were thus forced to get up and leave, at which point we were still charged their exorbitant and pretentious drink prices.
Unfortunately, this was a disaster from start to finish. Not once did the staff come to us and apologise for the delay, or explain the reason for the delay, but they smugly told us to ‘have a nice day’ after we had left.
Go to Sainsbury’s and buy yourself a meal deal and sit on the picnic benches overlooking the marina instead. A much better use of your time and money.
We left to go to a nearby Stonebaked pizza restaurant who served us within 15 minutes of sitting down.
If you’re going to charge your customers £4 for a coke (which you can get for 20p from Costco) or £19 for a risotto and then expect a tip, at least serve peoples food in a timely fashion.

Read moreAvoid this restaurant. I ordered a fish n chip and a burger takeaway over phone being 1hr 30 mins earlier as a treat to a long journey home. Its really a rip off as it costs 24 pounds for a simple fish n chips and 18 pounds burger which doesnt come with fish. Pictures really justify the quality of the food.
I mentioned specifically food had to be ready at 1:45pm as we have a train to catch. The receptionist reassured me the food will be on time as they have around 90 mins to get the food ready. And there we were, arrived at 1:40pm to get the food. When paying, I asked to waive the extra portion of chips. They said they couldnt as they've made it which made completely sense. However, it was around 1355 that finally the food was ready. Being pannicking, the manager was really helpful by saying "You will be fine, still get plenty of time." I ran to the train station as fast as I could and was glad I did as the train took off 5 mins earlier. Anyway, just a personal horrify experience. The restaurant seemed nice. But for the food I had gotten, I would completely recommend 45 Queen street and The Cornish Barn which are not far away. 200% nicer and they certainly don’t have a rude manager with really poor attitude which basically put you off to any appetite you have.
By the way, this is my first and ever 1 star to any restaurant. I...
