Derek Jarman once remarked of Glasgow that preserved in this city is a pace of life increasingly being lost to the hustle and bustle of our postmodern urban landscapes, one that makes neither hurry nor apology for for this lack of urgency. Cafe Niu is one such bastion of this resistance to the incitement of haste instilled in us by neoliberalism and its obsession with Progress. This is not to say that the service here is poor, indeed the atmosphere is such that, what would feel like an interminable wait in most other establishments, instead feels like the gift of lost time taken back. Simply, a chance to sit and enjoy. And enjoy you will! Because the fare on offer is both reasonably priced (£2 for a filled roll in this economy!) and delicious.
