I usually don’t leave reviews, but I wanted to make a post about this place because the atmosphere was really great, but the food was abysmal.

I ordered a steak and ale pie, it came as a few pieces of steak in a metal tray with a puff pastry top half-heartedly put on top. The mash was stone cold and clearly reheated. It was oily as if too much butter had been used. A pie has a pastry shell and it’s one of its defining parts. My partner had the mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was all lumpy like cottage cheese. It had clearly been frozen and then heated. They put new cheese on top and the food was so cold that it didn’t even melt it. The salad I will admit was nice and dressing good.

It’s a real shame to leave this review. The bar had a wonderful vibe and felt like a great spot in Inverness, but the food was honestly horrid. Felt worse after ordering than...

ENG The pub with the worst service ever since we arrived in Scotland. We enter and sit at the counter to order. Behind the counter there are 3 bartenders: one looks around with the menu in hand, one takes orders from the people in front of her, the third runs up and down like a top. I wait and wait, no one considers me, 4 or 5 customers pass in front of me and I wait with my wallet in hand in front of the taps, looking intensely at the barmaid (who every time turns her gaze away). After more than 10 minutes (without the place being full), I told them to go to hell and preferred to give my money elsewhere. Really bad. If you want courtesy and excellent service, just go across the street.

RACIST BAR MANAGER AND BAR STAFF! Unfair treatment for being a person of colour is never acceptable. For the last two decades I’ve lived in UK I have never been treated like this at a bar. I even lodged a complaint with the bar manager to be laughed at, the minute I turn around.

For context we only had one pint from another bar when we got there so we were very far from drunk, never rude to anyone and all we wanted was to enjoy the live music and have a good time after our work trip. I was very calm and reasonable even when discussing my complaint with the bar manager.

It’s horrible to be treated differently than everyone else around you when all you want to do is have a good time. Keep your racist thoughts to yourselves and at least act...

We were a large group, 9 adults and a child, there were challenges in planning for sure. Highlander did everything they could to accommodate our group - it was not perfect, but it's a tough place for a large group. The order at the bar situation really complicated things for us - but we are not fans of that in any of the pubs. I do wish the staff were friendlier, we felt like they preferred we were not there... but the food was amazing and the music was Tartan Paint, which we really loved. If we were a party of 2 or 4 people, this would have been a favorite. Fun place - but difficult for a large group. I do recommend Highlander for great food and music!

What an interesting place! Popped in for a drink and stayed for food. The bar staff were really sweet, especially one lady who could see I was quite shy. Myself and my partner both had food, which was well presented and very tasty! I loved the haggis, tatties and dumplings I had. My partner had three whiskey drams, which he really seemed to enjoy. We both really enjoyed our desserts too - the deep fried Mars bar is a must for the curious tourist! I found the lighting and the music really interesting - I bet this place is fantastic when they have live music playing!
