Scotch and rye was a place I'd heard about from locals on repeat, sadly due to life being so hectic I was unable to visit it as soon as I'd have liked, but my gods, it was worth every second of the wait.
I went for lunch the first time ordering the LFC burger which is quiet frankly utterly incredible, I'm not a pickle person but whatever the hell is on those pickles makes them dreamlike! They fit into the flavour profile of the burgers beautifully.
Also, upon my second visit I ordered sweet potato fries and a normal smash burger, again, perfectly seasoned, cooked, executed fantastically, presented beautifully and it did not in any facet dissapoint, it was truly a force to be reckoned with.
Points to note:
The food is incredible, but the price is hefty for portion sizes.
Drinks are quiet frankly stupidly marked up, a can of iron bru costing £3 is quite frankly a joke
food has yet to disappoint, always arrived quickly, well presented and very well made
the staff are very friendly and accommodating
the stairs to the bathroom are slippery and dangerous, be careful
they are dog friendly and the atmosphere is fantastic
All in all it makes a great addition to the food/night life scene in Inverness, it would be nice if they'd gauge less on drinks cost but as we all know trying to explain to a shareholder why they are making less money is like explaining to a Tory why they need to pay taxes, impossible.
Overall the staff are great, the atmosphere is great the food is great and the experience is one to enjoy, I'll be back without a doubt to battle some of the food challenges and more out of the box food choices they have.
Best burger in Inverness goes to scotch and rye, but sorry folks, playback and the Innes bar have you beat...
Read moreThe staff gets 4 stars, as they were all helpful and kind. I would have liked a refill on my water or a carafe to handle it myself, but I didn’t make a fuss of it when asked later if I needed anything.
The reviews online had made this place sound awesome and must-try, and the photos of burgers looked great, but I hadn’t realized until studying the menu that it’s American food with a Scottish flair. Not just a couple dishes, but all of them. Seemed interesting, but I am not sure anyone familiar with the American flavors would like it. Maybe someone who hasn’t would be impressed. I kept trying to give the benefit of the doubt with each step of the meal.
I had a side salad to start, and the presentation was lovely, but there wasn’t much to it. The Hilly cheesesteak was beef brisket that was rather dry on its own, supposedly it had cheese on the sandwich but it must’ve been the lightest spread of it on the bread? And the whisky sauce, which I assumed was to be like an au jus side dip (which isn’t a thing with cheesesteak in the states), it tasted like brown gravy and pepper and it just didn’t go well with the sandwich to me.
I ordered a decaf coffee (they did an Americano) and key lime cheesecake for dessert. It was one of the items on the dessert menu that didn’t state it was vegan, and so I was hopeful. It certainly wasn’t cheesecake nor was it key lime pie. Quit eating after one bite.
This was also the first restaurant in my week and a half of being in the UK that asked about tip when cashing out. I found that interesting, but again the staff was great and so I was happy to spend there. It’s just unfortunate that my meal was £30 before tip and not all...
Read moreThis was a fun place. The stuff was friendly and they have a wide variety of fun drinks, including some non-alcoholic. They serve mostly burgers and sandwiches, a few other things that fall into the category of American food.
We ordered a cranberry-brie burger and a French dip sandwich with a fried cheese starter. The fried cheese was actually really good, though the marinara sauce was ice cold, which was slightly jarring. I don't recommend pairing the cranberry-brie combo with beef; it wasn't bad, just not really compatible. The chicken would probably be way better. The burger was also a bit dry, and slightly overcooked. The French dip sandwich was good. It had a good mix of vegetables and the beef had a nice flavor to it. Plus, the sweet potato fries were on point! Cajun fries were good, too, though a bit spicier than expected.
We felt that the food was a little expensive, but otherwise not a bad place to eat. The biggest problem we had was that we waited about an hour for our meal. It took so long that we started to worry they'd forgotten us or that our orders had been overlooked in the kitchen. Judging from the other reviews this doesn't seem to be a regular problem, but we were starving and the staff never mentioned anything about it being slow in the kitchen or acknowledged the time we had been waiting, so it was a little frustrating.
That being said the staff were nice and did give us recommendations on things to do in the area, so we don't fault them too much. All in all, we had an okay experience which might have been a little better with a shorter...
