I enjoyed my stay here! The location is perfect. It's basically directly across the street from both the bus station and train station and is within walking distance of everything Inverness has to offer.
The women's bathroom could be cleaner. Toilets, sinks, and counters were immaculate. The shower cubicles need some extra love. The parts you touch are clean, but there are some "forgotten corners" that need a lot of cleaning.
The bunks don't have privacy curtains, which I think would be a great addition. Mainly, it was the motion censor hall light that would flash on and wake me up any time someone left.
Lockers are under the bed and have space for you to add a lock. They slide out from under the bottom bunk and open from the top. This can be tricky when the person on the bottom bunk is still sleeping. I was able to get the locker out but couldn't push it back under. After I checked out, I was able to leave my bag in the luggage room until 6pm for free. This room is unlocked and just has an IKEA table/counter in it. I had a bike lock to attach my bag to it. This room is behind a locked door (same floor the guests sleep on), and you have to ask the receptionist to let you in.
I ate in the common room twice and didn't use the kitchen. Looked like a lot of people were using the kitchen. The common room is crowded with furniture, so navigating it with stuff can be tricky.
I would...
Read moreWe just needed a place to sleep for the night upon arriving in Scotland and moving onto our next destination early the following morning, and while I'm hesitant to stay in a hostel in my late 30s (I like privacy and quiet and my own personal space), I loved that Black Isle offered a private, two-person dorm, and it was inexpensive. Looking elsewhere, the smaller the bed count of a room, the more expensive the fee, and so I appreciated that we got our own space for cheap. (And I've previously stayed with Black Isle at their little cabin up on the brewery's property in Munlochy, so I was happy to give them more money.)
Check-in was easy, the bathrooms were clean, the room was bare but like I said, we just needed a bed and a little heat. The communal kitchen was decently stocked with cooking and eating equipment, and there was ample space to store things in the refrigerators.
My only complaint, and it's not the hostel's fault, but just something for light sleepers to consider: somewhere in town was pumping music LATE into the night. I wasn't aware of it until about midnight, and it continued until three a.m. And while I appreciated how conveniently located the hostel is to everything in town, that was one the one drawback. But it wouldn't keep me from...
Read moreIt does the job but that's about it. We stayed 2 nights during our Isle of skye trip. ||The shared room was big enough for 4 people to move around but besides of 2 bunk beds there was absolutely nothing else in the room. A chair or two might have been great as when you are at the bottom bunk you can't sit on it as the top bunk is set to low.||The beds were fairly comfortable but noise every time you moved.||The bathrooms very supposedly cleaned but def weren't, the sign was just put up. The floors in the shower were dirty, only two hooks, so the chance of your stuff getting wet were pretty high. Also super annoying was the push and stop buttons in the shower, they turn of every 15 sec or so, it's annoying to take a shower.||Same for the "give it a good yank" in the toilets, most of the time the yank wasn't enough and the toilets didn't flush.||The kitchen upstairs is small, we only stored something in the fridge but I wouldn't cook there as it's just waaaaay to small.||The good thing is the location as it's right around the corner from the bus stop.||If you simple need a place to stay overnight, I would say it's alright but still too expensive for...
