Jerk Cafe — Restaurant in Great Britain

I’ve seen a lot of reviews online & on google saying how the food is really tasty, flavourful and a 5/5. However, when me and my partner went here, the atmosphere felt a bit weird. No one seemed happy to serve us, music was playing which suited the vibe well but the woman seemed unbothered to serve us. I then asked to see the size of their small containers and the response I got from the server was as if I wasn’t allowed to ask that. When it got to the food, that’s where it went downhill. I ordered 2 Jerk Chicken meals with Plantain. The chicken was smoky & charred so visually it looked good and it also smelt really nice but the taste left A LOT to be desired. It was more of a BBQ chicken flavour which was very subtle but there was barely a jerk taste to it. It wasn’t spicy at all & that’s what jerk is. The rice was bland there was nothing to it. The nicest thing was probably the sauce. I appreciate the fact that the plantain was fresh and hot but I wouldn’t have minded waiting for it be drained or patted dry as there was honestly so much oil at the bottom of the container & the last few bits were literally dripping with oil, to the point that once we had finished our meals both me and my partners stomach didn’t agree with what we had just ate. I love jerk chicken and know what to expect but this was very average especially from seeing multiple people say their food had loads of flavour. Maybe this was an off day but it doesn’t make me wanna try anything else when it was so bad. £26 on average food feels like a waste of money if I’m honest. I recently went to collect an order and the older lady working there overcharged me for something as small as a bigga. When I checked on just eat, and realised it was down for £2, it made sense as she had charged me £2.50 and I couldn’t believe it. It makes me realise in general, after adding things up that she overcharged me for what I bought by over £3. If this is done with multiple orders, I can see how money can be made dishonestly. Please be mindful of this if you read this.

And as you can see by the response, extremely rude and unprofessional. And as you can see by the screenshot, there was no choice for a large or small bigga, this is an absolute lie. I bought two biggas which cost me £5 (not a ‘large bigga’ and a ‘large d and g’ then retrospectively went to check on their just eat and realised I was overcharged and it costed £2 on their site. For me it wasn’t about the money, but the principle, and this response sums up the kind of person that would do this. The irony of this response, talking about business. Just looking at the picture will clearly show. Notice theres no denial of being overcharged. It’s not about ‘costing too much to pay’. That is clearly deflecting from the situation. It’s about being dishonest and charging more than the actual cost. Trying to charge me extra, when it clearly shows on just eat for less. A clear dishonest move, which you have not denied. August 2024 Updates: It seems I do come every 2 years. Anyway, the food is super delicious. Super tasty and flavoursome. Although the waiting time still seems longer - i don't know why that it - if you can look past the waiting time, you'll enjoy the meals. Strangely, the pricing seems to be different from what is on the wall/board to what you're charged... or maybe it's be that didn't pay attention. Ultimately, the meals are good, and the ladies do have a good chat open to feedback that will help the business and restaurant improve their service and that's great.

Updated comments 2022: I've been here before for a takeaway, and the food was decent. Well flavoured, but this time having waited for 30min, I was told food is not even closed to ready... not good experience. As we had to go asked for that update even. Customer service needs to be better, and food has to come out on time. Customers have travelled from a long way - we came from constable to rochester for this, and we could have gone anywhere else. Anyway, like I said, good food and tasty you'll find here. Adios
