Read moreI have been visiting this restaurant for a few years now, since it got bought by its new owners, Kabul Dera I decided to visit 05/07/24 Upon entry I was greeted by the owner and his daughter, wonderful hosts and hostess, they gave me a tour as I stated this is the 1st time since the restaurant changed, I was given an option, either to sit at the normal table or for a more authentic experience to sit on a platform, soft with thick carpet and cushions, this is how meals are consumed in Afghanistan, similar to authentic Japanese restaurant where you sit on the floor shoes off, We was offered their house soup which was complimentary and was very good whilst we looked at the menu, now I ordered a lamb Karoaih? its a traditional dish and its not a curry as its cooked with non Indian spices, All I can say it was absolutely delicious, the meat was so soft it literally broke apart in flakes of goodness upon contact, the sauce was bang on, thick yet with flow, the flavour was something ive never experienced, unbelievable, it was served with a huge piece of bread that was freshly baked on the premises, soft so easy to tear, perfect companion to the dish I had, Also a very generous portion of fresh salad along with Afghan condiments and chutneys, All I can say is please visit this restaurant, the service the food the environment was all spot on, 100% & you will NOT be disappointed, I have already decided that I will book this place when my family visits me in a few weeks, Note this is not a licensed restaurant and no alcohol is permitted but they have a wide variety of soft drinks and traditional hot drinks, I know its a long review but I was so impressed I'm certain you...
Heard good things about this place so went to try it out, there was 6 of us, was greeted by a nice friendly lady, but than went downhill after that, the owner/manager was very angry, he got annoyed after pulling out 2 chairs for us, but we wanted to sit on the floor instead, we ordered the food and sat waiting whilst listening to some classic Bollywood songs from the 90s, got given some complimentary soup, which was nice, we ordered a large mix grill, chicken and lamb shinwari and 2 portions of chapli kebab, food arrived after about 25 mins, started with the chapli kebabs, a bit small in size but they tasted fresh and meaty, nice texture and taste, than we got the mixed grill which came with kabli pilau, the rice was amazing tasted like genuine Afghan pilau the lamb shank was nice too, soft tender meat, chicken wings/chicken tikka was nice along with the lamb chops, the rest was awful, chicken kebab, lamb kebab, lamb ribs, lamb tikka was really dry and over cooked, overall rice was the only decent thing, we than got the Karahi’s which was meant to be their specialty, but I can definitely say it was the worst karahi’s I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried 100s of place in the uk and abroad, its didn’t taste anything like a shinwari/nakmeen/charsi karahi, the lamb has over cooked and mushy and seemed like they put tinned tomatoes on boiled meat cooked for 10 mins and sent it out, it was runny, sweet and tasted awful, the chicken karahi was even worse, full of oil and uncooked tomatoes, you don’t need to order a sweet dish after eating this, again tasted nothing like a authentic Afghan curry, won’t...
Read moreHad to try this new restaurant in Kingsbury as we had never had Afghan food and we were not disappointed. The building at No. 40. Kingsbury (not Square) was until recently Desire Indian restaurant. The interior, however, has been completely refurbished and looked very smart and the seats were comfortable. There were sub-continent dishes on the menu but we both opted for traditional Afghan dishes. A nice touch was a complementary Afghan chicken soup which was very hot and spicy. Service from traditionally dressed ladies was excellent. We both opted for Lamb dishes, Kabuli and Mantu, The rice was an enormous portion and we had two! One would have been enough. The Naan was interesting insomuch it was hanging on a skewer. I would say the food was more middle-eastern than Indian but was absolutely delicious and plentiful. In fact there was too much. Total cost was £40. The restaurant is not licensed but soft drinks were sufficient. They may want to consider diners bringing their own alcohol. It was Saturday night so it was disappointing that there were not many diners. In time I hope trade picks up as this is a must for those that like different food from...
