A Wonderful Birthday Lunch at LI~LY
We visited LI~LY in Knutsford for lunch this week to celebrate my 40th birthday, and it was truly a memorable experience. The restaurant itself has a beautiful, sophisticated feel – warm tones, soft lighting, and an understated luxury that instantly makes you feel at ease.
The service was excellent – attentive without being overbearing – and it was a lovely touch that some of the dishes were brought out and introduced by the chefs themselves. You could sense their pride in what they’d created, and it really added to the whole experience.
We went for the six-course lunch menu, skipping the wine pairing since my husband was driving and I was heading to Manchester afterwards. I did have a glass of De Loach Pinot Noir, which was smooth, well-balanced, and complemented the dishes beautifully.
The whole menu was thoughtfully crafted, with each course carefully considered and beautifully presented. You could taste the effort and attention to detail in every bite. Personally, I think £60 per person is great value considering the amount of work and precision that goes into each dish – it’s clear these plates don’t come together by accident.
One of the standout dishes for me was the Tartlet of Alliums. Chef Aiden came out and explained how he’d made the tartlet case using a sablé-style biscuit dough, swapping some of the butter for Bomber cheese. It gave the tart a richer, more savoury edge that balanced perfectly with the sweet, delicate alliums.
The dessert was also a real surprise – I’m not usually a fan of strawberry mousse or that creamy, strawberry milkshake kind of flavour, but this one was on a whole different level. The mousse was topped with a crisp sesame tuile and a vibrant green shiso leaf sorbet. The sorbet was beautifully refreshing, and the combination of sesame and strawberry worked so well together. It was unexpected, balanced, and absolutely delicious.
It was an exceptional experience from start to finish, and we’re already planning to return soon to try the dinner menu. If you’re looking for fine dining with a creative touch, LI~LY is definitely...
Read moreMy partner and I celebrated my birthday here in July. The experience from start to finish was nothing short of exceptional. We were welcomed by the friendly team and arrived to a birthday card on our table, a lovely gesture that really made us feel at home. The food was incredible, expertly curated and a true journey of flavour, texture and craft, it was so incredible we in fact still have difficulty choosing which was our favourite course! We also opted for the wine flight, and enjoyed trying different wines which perfectly complimented the courses, and these were expertly explained by our knowledgeable waiter Angus. At the end of our evening, Angus even made us our own cocktail based on our preferences, a great way to end the night and certainly a personalised touch!
I can only recommend you try for yourself and it is definitely worth the trip if you are travelling far (ourselves from London!) From the food, to the setting, to the team, to the drinks, the whole evening was faultless. Thank-you so much for an incredible evening and we can't wait to see what's on the menu next! We...

Arriving to a prompt , on time, & warm welcome from Sarah [Byrne] The atmosphere is intimate and very clean
Starting with the Tartlet of Red Mullet and Broad Beans, we knew we were in for a culinary masterpiece. Such a delicate Tartlet, which was small but big in flavour, and I'm not sure how on earth Aiden packed so much into that 2'' x 2'' parcel.
How Aiden invents these combinations is beyond belief and is a testament to his artistry and imagination.
There are subtle blends of ingredients where you didn't expect them [the ginger in the Rhubarb Mousse-I think?] But they worked nonetheless
I loved the pomme Anna with the Chicory Tip.
It was also Good to see Morels in the Menu.
Satisfied completely. Although somewhat full at the end of the 9 courses.
Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, as were all of the staff, and our Hostess, Sarah, is so Nice.
We will have to come again very soon and recommend everyone
Many Thanks
From Andrew...
