Lula Shack — Restaurant in Great Britain

After hearing lots about the new restaurant on the beach, I was eager to head down with a friend for a sunny afternoon lunch.

What with covid 19 still around we made sure we looked up how to order etc before arriving. When we arrived we took note of the sign thst said find your own table. We walked in and there was a waitress cleaning a table and another behind the bar. Neither spoke to us. We walked in and sat down. There was no menus available but figured this may be because of cross contamination etc. So we looked up the menu on our phones.

Food was suppose to be starting to be served at 12 which is preciscley when we arrived. We noticed no one was eating and no one was queuing to order. We asked the waitress if they were serving food and she said 12.30. At 12.25 we went the the shack to order drinks and see if we could order food we ordered 2 cokes (cans) which came to a whopping £5. But as it was a nice seafood place we were expecting to pay more. We were told we couldn't order food yet and I asked the waitress to wave me when we could. The queue then became about 15 people deep. About 5 minutes later the waitress came and told the first person in the queue that food wouldn't be being served until 1.30 now.

There was one lady who had arrived at 11 and was really dissapointed. We weren't informed, it was passed along the queue and around the restaurant by customers. Unsurprisingly people began to leave quickly with rumbly bellies and dissapointed faces.

It's a shame as the food looks so good and it's a great menu. I will be returning to see them again once they've got on their feet but they all just looked very stressed and unprepared. Customer service is number 1 with any restaurant, and here it was pretty...

We absolutely loved our Lula experience! I'd gathered it was very popular and got very busy in the evenings so I pre-booked our 5.30pm table for 4 people over the phone 48 hours prior with no problem, the member of staff who took the call was friendly and efficient. We were acknowledged and greeted immediately on arrival and shown to our table. A member of staff came up after 10 minutes to take our drinks order and we also ordered food at the same time. Our drinks came very quickly and our food arrived around 25 minutes after ordering. Myself and our 2 daughters had the wings & ribs each and my husband had Caesar salad with popcorn shrimp and salt & pepper squid as side dishes. Everything was piping hot, delicious and portions were just the right size. During the course of our meal, we had 2 members of staff check we were happy with everything and we felt very well looked after.

On a side note - During our time there we did notice a reserved table for a 6pm arrival x 8 people behind ours and by the time we had finished (around 6.45pm), this party was still a no-show.

Now I've seen bad reviews on here citing no tables available/too busy/not attentive enough (the authors do sound as having a rather entitled attitude tbh) and I feel that to not have the common courtesy or decency to call up & cancel your unwanted table reservation so a small business can re-sell that table is disgusting!

So, I'll leave this nugget of food for thought out there - you reap what you sow. If each person had a little more forethought, consideration & empathy then the 🌎 would revolve far smoother for us all.

We are a family of 6 and fancied eating out. Not taking bookings so turn up and hopefully find a table.... We got a table but it didn't have chairs. Luckily got a table from customers who were leaving, this meant table wasn't cleaned in between. Ordered food at bar, I'm a vegetarian and ordered a halloumi tortilla. Chicken one came out and I said to the waitress, sorry, it's meant to be halloumi. She rolled her eyes and took the plate away with such attitude and didn't say a word. I was brought back one with halloumi, but the kitchen had literally taken the chicken off and replaced it with halloumi because they'd left behind a chunk of chicken. The rest of my families food had arrived so I didn't make a fuss and just ate it rather than send it back. After the attitude from the waitress I don't think they'd really be too bothered anyway. It's literally just a beach bar, no one checks on you after you've got your food. Nice idea to have a restaurant by the beach but this wasn't very well run and was a bit of a shambles. Food wasn't that special so wouldn't go back. Expensive for what it is and the poor service. It's sad that when we go out as a family, which isn't often, to spend our money and have a nice experience, that it can be really spoilt by poor and unfriendly service, especially when you've been looking forward...
