Our first time coming in since the restaurant changed from Simply Seafood to No1 Cockleshed many years ago. The restaurant has always been somewhere we wanted to go back to, but due to its pricing we haven’t been able to until now. We managed to secure an outside table in the shade as it was a very hot day! We decided to treat ourselves to the seafood platter, which was delicious and amazingly presented. My first time trying oysters, and I was pleasantly surprised! Will definitely be having more after this. For desserts we had a lemon tart and a creme brûlée, and that was probably the best creme brûlée I’ve ever tasted. 10/10! All in all a wonderful afternoon! The music was also really good and modern, and we loved the covers of some of the well-known tracks. The only point we felt could have been improved was the attentiveness of the staff - they were all very friendly and helpful, but would leave us for ages before coming over to take orders for things, so we often had to flag them down to progress our meal etc.

We visited on a busy bank holiday in May but we found a place to park nearby. No.1 Cockleshed in Leigh-on-Sea is an absolute delight and a must-visit for anyone craving fresh, delicious seafood in a charming, authentic setting. From the moment you approach, the aroma of the sea and the lively atmosphere draw you in. The cockles, of course, are the star of the show – plump, perfectly cooked, and incredibly flavourful, whether you prefer them natural or with a splash of vinegar. What truly elevates No.1 Cockleshed beyond just great food is the experience. It's a taste of traditional Leigh-on-Sea, with a friendly, bustling energy that feels genuinely local. The staff are always welcoming and happy to chat, adding to the relaxed and enjoyable vibe. Whether you're grabbing a pot to enjoy by the water, or taking some home for a seafood feast, No.1 Cockleshed consistently delivers on quality, freshness, and an unmistakable sense of place.

Visited last night, and had some warm and friendly service. We had a selection of tapas, everything was decent, the wife really enjoyed the crab and cockel croquettes. Nothing really stood out for me , although the chicken skewers weren't bad at all. The cockel pops were nice but needed more of the chilli vinegar. Overall a good experience nothing wrong just nothing really zinged for me, a nice place and location, will comeand maybe try the mains next time.

We have both eaten here and held our wedding celebration and our experiences have been great.

We held our wedding meal and party here and absolutely everything from start to finish was perfect.

Chris, Kerry and the team are fantastic, looking after us and all our guests on our special day. The food was absolutely excellent and all our guests agreed. The service was brilliant and the team made sure each guest, and any children were happy and had all they needed.

The venue on the day looked so good, Chris and the team did a great job in laying everything out. We were so lucky to also have great weather and the decking outside was well used especially for welcome drinks.

In planning the event Chris put us at ease and was so flexible and accommodating and always kept us up to date. They accommodated all individual the dietary needs of each guest. He coordinated with the entertainment we had on that day and made sure everything went smoothly. We can’t thank you all enough for making our...
