If you read this review and think it’s written by a friend, it’s fake etc then I can assure you it’s not.
The only word that really could describe it is biased.
There is a reason for this and it’s a simple one.
I’m sadly now classed as middle aged, however with that comes experience.
During my lifetime I have been lucky enough to of sampled dishes from a plethora of establishments worldwide.
Sadly before Restaurant Roots was born there wasn’t really any restaurant in this county that you could really be excited about (Yes there are a dozen or so restaurants that are very good, but I’m talking about exceptional)
If your a “foodie” then I’m sorry you go to a restaurant for the food, not the view, not the decor, not because it’s the in place or has a celebrity chefs name above the door that might visit once a quarter.
The restaurant has a husband and wife combo at the cuisine helm that have an extremely large passion and only the highest of standards for both taste and aesthetically pleasing dishes, they say when your passionate about something it shines through well take your sunglasses as every dish served is brighter than the sun.
The other member of this extremely well oiled machine is “The man” at front of house, who is also passionate about providing not good but exceptional service. He will happily provide you with his expertise and knowledge of any beverage you ask for or what best to pair the food with. How many times when dining out do you seemed to get over looked when you have finished your drink? You have no need to worry here his service is so attentive that sadly some of are more less worldly reviewers have been negative classed his attention to detail as pushy (it’s not pushy it’s bloody good service) when you go back to the restaurant again he will remember what you drank the last time (now that’s service!)
Today I had the discovery menu which consisted of about ten courses. I can’t fault one, it’s got to the point now I don’t even look at the menu as items I wouldn’t normally eat don’t like etc taste amazing in this place.
I was brought up that you never talk about the cost/ price of purchases, that it’s just not done but I’m going to do it! I devoured about ten courses at the best food restaurant in the county. The cost for this extravaganza for food alone was £60 This is absurd, it’s like going to a restaurant up in the capital and getting your meal for a third of the actual cost.
Don’t book and dine at a restaurant that has a view, a celebrity name above the door. Go an dine at a restaurant that you are served with passion and attention to detail in every course.
Don’t hesitate just go sit back and enjoy...
Read moreWow... What can I say? This is by far the best meal I have ever been out for.. food, alcohol were awesome and the staff/owners are incredible. It is both my parents 80th birthdays this year and my wife and I decided to spoil them with a lavish meal to celebrate. I was concerned, a 10 course taster menu with matching wine flights might be too excessive for them. I called to discuss "dietary requirements" and explained my concerns and the fact that shellfish was a delicate matter but left it at that with no expectations. We arrived at the restaurant to find they had designed an 8 course meal, specifically designed to fit my Parents. For most people they provide the menu on an tablet, but understanding that octogenarians might struggle with tech, they had printed beautiful (memento) menus for my parents. When describing food/drinks, they spoke loudly enough for my parents and placed themselves close to them to enable them to hear. Very thoughtful and all without prompting. They were happy for my parents to share a wine flight (not big drinkers) and on the meal where it was an IPA instead of wine, they bought my mum a separate glass of paired wine as she doesn't drink beer. Every meal, you could taste each individual flavour they described. The food was immense and whilst a taster menu, you left full. I stupidly forgot to check the "facilities" for my mum and on arriving was horrified to find there was a significant amount of steps (20+) to the ladies. Panicking, I spoke to the waitress as to whether they might have a staff loo on the ground floor my mum could use. They then offered to open the private dining space (with ground floor WC) whenever necessary and did so quickly and without fuss at every request. This might not be possible as a standard so do check in advance if one of your party has physical impairments, we were lucky that room wasn't in use but this might not always be the case. I could write a 10,000 word essay on this place and every word of it would be positive. Roots has introduced us to a new level of dining, we'll definitely return when the occasion calls for it and we have the excuse to spurge (I wish we could afford to go monthly!). Thank you from the bottom of my heart for such a special night for...
Read moreLunch. Is this Bournemouth's best restaurant? On numerous visits to this beautiful part of Dorset,we have never managed to get a reservation here. The intimate restaurant has just 16 seats. This time it nearly didn't happen yet again. But they managed to squeeze us in for their Saturday lunchtime service. It's a family run restaurant headed up by the owners, Jan and Stacey Bretschneider’s. The dining room decoration is bright, clean and stylish. There are two tasting menus. The Seasonal at £49 with optional extras. Or the full Classic at £79.
Once drinks are served by the 'larger than life' maître d, the delious snacks arrive at the table. Up next is ‘Dad’s countryside supper’. That comes with a card explaining what Jan ate as a child on the family farm in Germany. A malty loaf of warm rye bread,a piece of cured salmon, smoked fish-roe mousse, cured meats and some really tasty butter. All that before you even have the first course. Then starts the procession of highly intricate dishes. Next,Beetroot, raspberry, pistachio, teriyaki. We had to add Hand-dived Scottish scallop, squash, vanilla, saffron £12.50. So glad we did. Main course was Breast of Chicken, pineapple, macadamia nut, black garlic with of course a beautiful lobster sauce. We're not done yet as Chef sends a refreshing dessert of New Forest strawberry, shiso, sancho pepper. Final dessert is a trio of Matcha green tea variations. To finish this exceptional meal, some sweet treats. Jan's cooking is on another level. This is high-end cuisine at it's very finest with expertly sourced produce. Worthy of a star from the tyre men. Or at least a Bib Gourmand. Although they do have three AA rosettes, and listed in the top restaurant guides. The answer is 'Yes',this is...
