There was no option of zero stars so one will have to do.
I was unfortunate to be in the same party as the below reviewer and echo his sentiments exactly. We had organised a stag do in Newquay for our friend who was a keen golfer over the weekend of 4th June 2021. With elements such as COVID to consider before arriving in Newquay, it was arranged by the 3 best men to plan our day accordingly to avoid minimum fuss. First up, a round of golf in a near by course where the stag was 'dressed up'. This consisted of a small skirt, polo top (due to the weather), pink visor and golf glove. After the round, one of the best men had arranged a booking at the Sailors from 1500-1900. It was already made clear to them that this booking was for a stag do and that the party would be dressed up (all minus the stag consisting of smart shorts, polo top/jumper, visor and glove). Upon booking this was okayed by the pub. The weather on 5th June in Newquay was awful and we had rang after our round to enquire whether we could change to inside seating and to state we would be slightly late. Even on the phone the best man was greeted by attitude saying that it is 'company policy' that if you are not sat at your table within 15 minutes then he would have to give it away. Baring in mind we had 3 tables of 6 booked well in advance and would be spending a fair chunk between us. We arrived around 10minutes after 1500 and were welcomed by nothing but rude, arrogant and belittling behaviour by the doorman and bar manager. Not one of us had had a beer before arriving as we wanted to make our booking and not one of us was dressed in 'fancy dress' as they put it to us. We politely explained that we had booked this table well in advance and that had travelled from Swansea to attend. The bar managers only response was that it is 'company policy' to not allow stag dos/fancy dress in, despite us making this clear to staff upon arrival. The weather was atrocious and all of our party were getting soaked. We even all offered to change and even this was immediately dismissed by staff. Despite our pleas, the bar manager was having none of it and we were greeted by nothing other than a totally arrogant and condescending tone throughout. We then had to spend the remainder of the afternoon walking around in the rain looking for another venue to accommodate us.
To say the afternoon was ruined is an understatement.
In short, I hope the place crumbles if this is their attitude with friendly, paying customers. The male bar manager in his late twenties/early thirties will need his hard drive checking...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs I first entered, I would be weary as I noticed there were a few bumps on the ground, which I would recommend the restaurant to place something over to smooth the ground as I did almost trip twice, but that could have been my eyes. The food was average cost; about Ā£8-Ā£13 for main meals on average. Drinks were again average cost, about Ā£3-Ā£5 for soft drinks and Ā£5-Ā£9 for alcoholic. On the topic of alcoholic drinks, the company that runs this establishment forbids anyone under 18 from drinking any drinks containing alcohol, including non-alcoholic versions of alcoholic drinks, despite the law allowing over 16ās to drink with adults with a meal. This problem occurred with me, but the manager did compensate me with 2 free drinks, though I think the company should rethink the non-alcoholic drinks ban. Of course this isnāt the pubās fault, but itās something that you should know before coming here.
On to the food: my sloppy joe was quite nice, the fries were also of average quality, so no complaints from me. My mothers taco meat did arrive cold, unsure if this was on purpose or not but she mentioned it reduced her enjoyment of the meal, and she also said that the beef was mostly fat, though that could be a one-off incident. My father had fish and chips, the chips were āpub standardā according to him, and he mentioned the fish was moderate, though the peas were quite good according to him. So nothing too bad to mention about the food, as thereās nothing wrong with being standard, and itās definitely better than having bad food.
The pub was also quite cosy, and didnāt appear to attract the wrong customers. My replacement drinks were quite nice, virgin mojito with passion fruit, and it even came with whole halves of passion fruit. The cocktails come on draught, so slightly lower quality but I suppose the efficacy of it may outweigh the customer experience. My reasoning for 3 stars is due to the food being alright, decent price, and the service was pretty good, though some minor-to-moderate issues with the food knocked off a star (though my experience may not reflect yours) and the issues with the non-alcoholic beverages not being served to minors, the bumps in the path at the entrance and near the bathroom, and the slight issues with the cocktails contributed to another star being removed, though if I could I would rate this pub 3.5 stars as I think 3 could be...

I cannot even begin to fathom how terribly bad the customer service and organisation was at this place. I can fully appreciate With covid etc workplaces are more stressful, however I could not be more appalled.
First of all we asked for a table for 4 people and even that seemed to be a chore, they wanted to see our IDās and make it very awkward whilst doing so, whispering to each other, even though we were stood in front of them.... then another 3 excuses came out before we were even seated... they only had outside, we accepted. We proceeded to walk outside and coincidentally we seen another table of people we knew but we decided to sit on the opposite side from them to save any problems.
Once we were seated, the rude blonde lady who initially greeted us at the door came over to us with a very bad attitude, again asking to see our IDās, Bear in mind we were not ordering any alcoholic drinks... just food. Even Before ordering this was enough to put us off, regardless of that we decided to order anyway. The table we knew decided to come and sit on the table next to us (we know itās again the ārulesā) but we were after all outside. Quickly the staff moved them back to their original seats, which was fair enough. Shortly after 4 security guards came out and decided to kick them out?? Completely baffled because we felt they had done nothing wrong. The rude blonde one I mentioned previously came over to us again and said to our group of 4 we have to drink up and leave too, even though we had paid for our food and were waiting for it. Obviously we questioned this and her response was ābecause you know them you need to leaveā this was by complete chance we seen them and couldāve literally happened to anyone.
Ultimately from the moment we stepped foot in the restaurant we had the impression they really did not want us there.
I never normally write reviews but the service we received was disgusting and they certainly need to address their staff and make their guests feel welcomed even through difficult times.
I will 100% will never visit this place again and will not be recommending to...
