Late update: 22/5/25 Food still remains to be nice. Young lady (don't recall her name, but not one we recognised from previous visit) super friendly and attentive, had a sense of humour too, much better visit. Thank you.
September 2024 So...greated on arrival, good start, Reminded only get on soft/hot drink with afternoon tea, extras will need paying for. Okay fair unusual for an afternoon tea, in our experience. But okay, expecting food to be exceptional for the price, £26 per person.... (quite a bit for afternoon tea, from other places we have been, from manor houses to dobbies) service was quite disappointing, not very friendly/chatty/interested/ observant team members, but nor were they in anyway rude. Literally put our teas down, seconds later brining out afternoon teas, not having had a moment to breath, let alone make our tea. Again no conversation, personal touch, Sausage roll- warm and tasty, Scotch egg-tasty Selection of sandwiches-nice Carrot cake-exceptional Fudge cake-tasty Victoria sponge- a little dense, very little cream and jam. Scone- had one bite, really wasn't good, really dense, like it had been defrosted. (Such a shame, was looking forward to that the most) wasn't asked how are food was, check in on at all, felt quite rushed. Felt like an age trying to get eye contact with someone for another tea. When finally did, the old wasn't taken away, had to chase someone down for sugar, twice. As only sweetener in the pot.no clean knife and fork for sweet items. As we were leaving a young lady came out with a celebratory plate, with cupcakes, as mention on booking it was our wedding anniversary, albeit not mentioned up to this point, so was quite a surprise. But awkward timing, because we were leaving. We appreciated the kind gesture. Did make us feel uncomfortable, as we clearly sorting ourselves to leave. Beautiful establishment, loved the decor, Accessible. Bill was £64 for lunch, and they request a service charge, which was over £5. We declined to pay this, being so steep. We have no issue giving tips, at all. We believe in being fair. They did take this off for us without hesitation. It wasn't Terrible nor was it fantastic just a little below par and we expected better, seeing reviews, should look again at princing and the odd one drink rule. Unfortunately we won't be recommending as it wasn't just the one issue. Overall if we could change one thing, on this day, it would of been the service, not the price or anything else. Perhaps it was a bad day, not overly friendly,/chatty or interested, which highly...
Read moreTerrible food, eggs Benedict was covered in hollandaise sauce to hide the bacon and toast when should of been ham and muffin. English breakfast, eggs came with loads of green parsley and the beans were freshly microwaved, so still had the thick film of congealed bean juice then there's the sausages. The cheapest sausage you could imagine, I cannot recognise the flavour, granary bread was cheap brown bread without seeds and the overall experience was awful. They charge a 10% service fee which is not disclosed until after you have ordered your food,. For 4 simple breakfasts the food cost £85. Most of it was returned and there was no offer of a refund, the waitress were embarrassed and agreed the eggs Benedict were below par. A person I am assuming was a manager came out and wanted to know what was wrong with the food to which we told her, she then tried to tell us that eggs Benedict is served differently in different cafes we quickly shut that down and she did not disagree. The lady apologised and asked for feedback, still no offer of refund, a whole breakfast was sent back, two were returned as incorrect and as for a scone and jam that cost £10 it's embarrassing. I do hope we will be contacted with an explanation as the area was lovely. We came together following the death of my father a few days before, to be given a sub standard breakfast from a cafe that is all fur coat and no knickers. Whilst the scenery was nice, being with my family following a tradgy was comforting for us all only to be delivered inedible food....
Read moreWent this morning for breakfast and a catch up. Rather disappointed been wanting to give chalkboard a go and now been put off coming back. The sausages were still pink on the inside, was told oh we have this often it’s just cause of the type of sausages we use it is to temperature, i had to ask for replacement sausages it wasn’t offered, then the second set wasn’t as bad but still pink. Just cause it hits the 75’c requirement doesn’t always mean it’s cooked all the way though especially if your not probing properly (I work in a kitchen and have done for 16 years I know mishaps can happen) but being told it’s a common comment made maybe this is an area for concern and discussion. After this the lady who I had spoken to about the sausages just seemed rude and condescending. The rest of the breakfast I can’t fault the hash browns were amazing, the tomatoes cooked perfectly, the vegan sausage my friend had have to be some of the best vegan sausages I’ve ever tried wanted to ask what brand they was but felt uncomfortable todo so. The lady who took our order was very friendly even tho she seemed very busy she still check in and asked if all was ok. Shame today was a let down, when I made me concern know there was no oh I’m sorry your not happy, it was straight oh we get this often they are to temp it’s just the type of sausages we use.. this isn’t good customer...
