This is an absolute gem of a place in St Andrews! We were given a table outside which is a lovely courtyard, and dog-friendly is a bonus! We had our two children so they both ordered macaroni cheese, and we ordered the Shrimp Po’Boy and Steak Philly sandwiches which were both amazing - the prawns were juicy and the pickled slaw was so good!! I didn’t think I’d manage to eat the side of sweet potato fries I’d ordered after seeing the size of our mains but they were so crispy and perfectly cooked, they got demolished too! The kids macaroni portion was really good and the garlic bread was homemade and lovely. Service was top notch, very friendly welcoming team and even little touches like having plastic cups for the kids to use is really good. A really pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, could’ve easily sat there all afternoon! Can’t wait to go back again and try the other options on the menu because the choices are great, it was hard to pick just one! Thank you to The Cottage Kitchen!

Great breakfast spot but I wouldn’t recommend it for lunch. Make sure you get there before they change the menu at 12. The eggs florentine are absolutely excellent and what I usually get. Avoid the risotto if you can as there is barely any flavour, and the soup can be hit or miss. You’ll be safe with anything egg based though! The coffee and cakes are great and the staff are very friendly. There’s lots of outside seating round the back and it’s dog-friendly too. The inside is often completely full, but there are some more seats upstairs that tend to be easier to get. We often end up sharing a table with other people which is actually quite nice. Overall a great breakfast spot.

Went for Sunday brunch. The coffee was good, as per usual. Food (eggs Benedict and avocado toast) was ok, not great, but mostly correct (though the avo toast bread was so dry and hard, it was impossible to cut with the provided knife). The place was quite busy but not terribly so. What was not ok is that the server started cleaning our table, left halfway through and also left some dirt, previous customers’ water and cutlery, and a dirty sponge on the table. And nobody (and three different servers came to our table with food and drinks) picked it up… That is not very good service at all.

Collected from them today as part of a Mystery Picnic booked via a third party. (one of several stops to collect items from) They clearly weren't expecting us despite having booked many weeks in advance, all other locations knew we were coming and had items ready. We were told the menu had changed and the expected items were no longer available (a sweet potato dish) and the alternative would be a sandwich - absolutely fine, but on checking what we were given there was 1 very hastily thrown together sandwich (our experience was for a family of 4) Closer inspection of the menu reveals that the sweet potato dish is still being served and I suspect that given they had either forgotten we were booked, or hadn't checked emails so had no clue at all that we were coming, this is why we were given a sandwich instead. It's a small and busy cafe but my initial thought would be that I wouldn't return given that they don't appear too bothered about the mystery picnic experience they have signed up to.

*Edit in reply to the response below. At the time of writing the above review, the menu online clearly showed the sweet potato salad, this was then confirmed to us over the phone and in writing by Amazingco who also confirmed they had no recieved no such update regarding a menu change. I suggest you ensure your own facts are correct before responding to a customer. Staff very clearly had no clue what the mystery picnic was given that they were overheard asking each other what it was and how it works. I stand by my review as written. We did not receive what was advertised and we were very much under the impression that we were an...

I always feel really bad giving places bad reviews, but I think this place doesn’t deserve more than 2 stars.

First, after we sat on our table, we were told to order online. However, there was no 4G coverage and the WiFi was so weak that my phone could barely even detect it. Trying to order online and at the same time getting the attention of the waitress took 25 mins. We managed to go through the online system which errored out in the end. Then, once we got the attention of our waitress, she said she’ll grab the tablet and come get our order. Took 10 extra mins and us reminding her again to order.

We ordered our food in the end (breakfast rolls and porridge) and we asked for the bacon to be crispy. The waitress didn’t note it anywhere and not surprisingly, the bacon didn’t arrive crispy. The roll was too soggy to eat as well, so I had to use a knife and a fork to eat it. The milk for the black tea we ordered didn’t arrive either and my boyfriend was given a fork to eat his porridge instead of a spoon (??) The carrot cake I ordered turned into a Victoria sponge which I tried to return, but they were out of carrot cake. I accepted the Victoria sponge to which the waitress pleasantly said she would put this on the house. Surprise, surprise - it didn’t happen. On a positive note, at least my boyfriend enjoyed his porridge and the Victoria sponge turned out quite tasty!

But safe to say, I won’t be visiting this...

A very pleasant surprise find this afternoon after the place we expected to visit was closed. Left in limbo and feeling hunger pangs we began a search and fortunately came across this place first. From outside it looked promising and we could see a very enticing selection of baked good at the servery, A quick inspection of the lunch menu showed further promise and once inside we were warmly greeted and promised a table within 5 minutes as the groud level was full. However agreeing to sit upstairs we were seated immediately. There was the unmistakeable scent of cullen skink which was irrestitable. Once seated the menu proved to make chosing a challenge because so much was appealing. We settled on a mug of soup and toasted snadwhiches. One cullen skink and a croque monsiuer and one carrot and corriander and a mushroom and gruyere. This was accompanied by latte and decaf tea. Everything was absolutely delicious and filling. There are only 2 tables upstairs and we struck up a conversation with 2 lovely ladies at the next table about the curious high window. All the servers were friendly and attentive. Service was timely and all in all it was a great experience we look forward to...
