I read about the Cabin via reviews on here, and decided to give it a punt. We are so glad we did! We arrived at 7:40 and were concerned it would close at 8, but the place was still full (with one table left out of around 6 - it's a lovely cosy spot) and the host showed us in (we were told that 8 is the usual kitchen closing time if numbers are low). What followed was the best fish supper I've had so far on our trip to Scotland. The menu consists of a selection of fish that you can choose to have battered, breaded (£1 extra) or grilled, and with chips or buttered potatoes. I opted for battered monkfish, and my partner had grilled scallops at the recommendation of the host. The batter was delightfully light, crisp and fluffy, the scallops seared to perfection - even the salad garnish was perfectly balanced to pair with the fish. The homemade tartare sauce was so good, I finished the lot and moved on to my partner's portion! Washed down with a glorious bottle of Skye ale and friendly, attentive service, this made for a perfect evening. I'm only sorry I didn't have room for the homemade whisky, honey and raspberry cheesecake! The new owners took over the place a month ago, so don't be swayed by the somewhat dated decor - the chef used to work at the West Highland Hotel, and the quality of the food shines through. Don't overlook this gem - you will not regret a visit.

This is one of those hidden gems. From the moment we entered we felt so welcomed. The server was lovely (sorry i cant remember your name). He was personable and enthusiastic. We heard him explaining the menu to others. Now i will preface this review with a small fact. I hate fish. I barely manage cod. But i hate the fishy taste. Today for my birthday i tried battered haddock. And wow. Just wow. The fish was delicious. It was my first time trying haddock and i have to say this is the best fish meal ive ever had. So fresh. So tasty and the boiled potatoes were divine. My husband had witcher sole, it was his first time trying it and he devoured it in minutes. We were full. But due to the birthday celebrations We thought we would try fit in some dessert. I had sticky toffee pudding and my husband honey, raspberry and whiskey cheesecake. And i can confirm both were as delicious as the mains! We are going to inverness next year. But we have already declared this will be one of the places we have to come back to. Even if it is for takeaway as we will have our dogs with us. Thank you!

Service is top notch, even saw them helping a customer crack open a shellfish. They would prepare all the tools and lemon water needed for my seafood feast. We ordered a platter and added a 1kg crab, a bottle of sparkling water, bill came to just under £150 including 10% service charge. I think it's worth it. The seafood platter: scallops, heaps of langoustine, lots of monkfish, separate plate of lemon sole, pair of velvet crabs, whole bowl of whelps, mussels towering over the lot, bread, potatoes, chips, dipping sauces. And they even got a candle to make sure dipping sauces stay warm. The langoustines, usually not our favourite, were the best we had and changed our minds now about the crustacean. Gets busy no matter what odd time you go. We went around 3+pm and managed to get one of the last available tables. They had to turn people away. No booking here which I think it's fair so everyone gets a chance to go, as lob as there's seats. If I were to go again, I'd go for the lobster and other side or smaller dishes without the platter as the platter was too much for both of us.

During our short three-day stay in Mallaig, we went here twice. It might have been three days, though they don't open on Wednesday - so we were left to fend for ourselves!

The food is excellent. Super fresh fish and seafood prepared beautifully (battered and fried, or grilled as you prefer). Whilst here, we tried the mussels (some of the best I've had), the langoustines, battered haddock (beautifully fresh, and perfect batter), fish cakes (which my mother-in-law claimed to be as good as her own), grilled salmon in butter (I had to try my husband's it looked so good), Cullen skink (after a two-day craving for it) and two non-fish items - chicken schnitzel and pork chops. Both the non-fish items came with a beautiful freshly made tomato relish. Everything we had here was just beautiful - oh, and we also had a slice of cheesecake as the whole table wanted to try it. Spoiler: it was so good that even as a cheesecake hater, I had a second bite.

The service here was exceptional, with the front of house managing to be friendly and engaging even whilst he was running between tables - he never paused once between taking orders, pouring and delivering drinks, and turning tables over.

If you come to Mallaig (and you should) definitely come here one night - or every night like we did... Well,...
