Best Food We’ve Had in Scotland!!!
Totally understated from the outside, this restaurant has the freshest, best food we’ve had in our week long trip around the Highlands and Islands. We were so sick of the same overpriced underwhelming menu and food in every restaurant we’d been to so it was delightful to finally have a change and what a brilliant one it was!
The lemon sole was superb and at only £32 is beyond good value (as someone who knows fish prices that’s outrageously good value with accompaniments).
The staff were very hospitable and it was great to get a laugh out of them too.
This is fine dining standard of food in a family run, totally relaxed, traditional seaside town restaurant setting.
Hats off the chef who was also able to accommodate my dairy allergy with no trouble at all.
The freshest mini loaf of bread before mains followed by the lemon sole and finished off with a blood orange sorbet and meringue. Top top notch!
I’ve read 3 very suspicious 1 star reviews from last year, whom all seem to be by the same group of people that never even ate here. If it wasn’t for those reviews this place would be deservedly ranked 5/5 on Google reviews and no.1 in the area.
100% check this spot out when you’re here. You absolutely...
Read moreWe had an amazing stay at the Cornerstone in June. We were returning to home on the small isles after a hospital trip and spent the night before our ferry the next morning. We arrived at 7pmish and had such a friendly welcome from the host, who showed us to our gorgeous room. There’s a fridge in the communal kitchen which was really handy for our big mainland shop that we were taking across, and the guests who were in the other room were lovely. The bed was incredibly soft and the selection of tea and coffee was great - and the view of the harbour was just magical. There was a bit of a smell from the bathroom but that didn’t dampen the experience at all. We got a small dinner to takeaway from the restaurant downstairs and took it up to our room - the waiting staff and chefs were really accommodating and went above and beyond for us. We can’t wait...
Read moreA really sweet first floor fish restaurant, pretty much right on the harbour in the centre of Mallaig. The young staff are keen, friendly and efficient. The restaurant is small, so booking is strongly advised. The evening we dined they turned away a constant stream of people.
And it was certainly their loss. The menu is not extensive perhaps, but the ingredients are fresh and superbly prepared and presented by chefs who certainly know their stuff. Really good, honest cooking; unpretentious but not without invention or sophistication. The wine list was also limited but perfectly adequate - and not overpriced.
Mallaig is a busy place on a summer's evening, small though it is, thronged with tourists. Cornerstone offers a quiet haven for respite and refreshment, and great food into the bargain. Well...
