Such A Shame, This "Could" Be A Great Eatery, But Instead, . . . . . . . . Visited Bridgnorth today with a friend, & when we walked past The Greenhouse, she recommended that we pop in to dine here, as she'd been before, & mentioned how nice the decor was inside.
True enough, once inside, I wasn't disappointed with the decor & general ambiance of this establishment, & we asked the chap behind the bar if they had a table for two, which they found for us, & promptly showed us to our table. On sitting down, my friend & myself just happened to glance at the š“cutlery, which both hers & mine had smudged food stain marks on. We then looked at the other two sets of cutlery on our table, all of which also had smudge stains marks on them, not a great start!
After a while, a waitress came over to take our drinks order, which she then brought to our table, & said she'd be back to take our food order, & replacement cutlery sets, but explained that because of the metal being dull, it "looks" like they're not clean, however, I did show her a knife & fork, that clearly had residue food smeared on it! After another 10-15 mins, no one came to take our food order, so when we spotted a chap who came to serve a table behind us, we caught his attention, & asked if we could order our food now, which we promptly did.
Approximately a further 20 mins or so later, out came our food, however, my starter which I'd ordered, a Shropshire Blue & Butternut Risotto, wasn't on her tray, so I enquired where it was, but the waitress didn't seem to know anything about it, so promptly whisked my main course, the Butter Roasted Salmon away to sort out my starter from scratch. Because my friend had her Roast topside of Bridgnorth Beef meal, it'd delayed even further my meal, so I drew the attention of another waitress, & asked her to go & retrieve my Butter Roasted Salmon back for me, & to forget about my original starter.
When my salmon arrived, it had a rather burnt looking half piece of Pak Choi on top, which was impossible to cut through with my knife, (why have a garnish vegetable, when it's inedible) then when breaking a piece of salmon, I noticed that sadly it had been overcooked, as it was hard around the edges!
I then drew the attention of the waitress, & explained that a) I couldn't cut through this toughened slice of Pak Choi with my knife, & b) that the salmon had been overcooked. Obviously, she apologised & offered either a replacement, Or something else, so I opted to have the same as my friend had ordered, the Roast topside of Bridgnorth Beef which did look okay.
Interestingly, the table behind us, had tried several times to grab the attention of a waitress, as they wanted to pay their bill, in the end they all got up, but on passing us, happened to mention that their cutlery also was dirty, & had asked for replacements, & that the service today had sadly fallen short.
As my friend & myself continued to finish our meals, another party of 4 had seated themselves opposite us, & my friend nudged me to their attention, as they'd called a waitress over, pointing out their dirty cutlery, & could they have replacements for their table of 4!
It's such a shame, as this could be a really "great" eatery, as both our roast meals were relatively good, however, instead because "basic" requirement standards were sadly lacking, I personally will think twice before rushing back here to dine, even though the chap behind the bar did take off our drinks (& the starter which I never had.) from our bill, as a good will gesture, which of course was appreciated, but necessary really for the mistakes made & dirty...
Read moreFor such a nice looking pub, we were looking forwards to having a nice meal as well. But it took over about 1½hours for us to get our meal. No idea what happened, whether the waitress forgot or the kitchen, but other tables were getting their food who had sat after us. The service at the start was fast and kind, but once we had drinks we just sat for a long while wondering where our food was. After 45 minutes our waitress looked at me a couple times, and then finally came by to say it'll be a few more minutes, about 15 minutes after that we offered only a free drink, then 15 minutes after that told it would be 2 minutes, 5 minutes later we got our food. The pie was good, the chips were massive for some reason so I only had about 6 in my little pot. The veg wasn't very buttery or seasoned and the cauliflower and broccoli were mushy. After waiting for so long, once we finally got our food not a single person came to ask us how our food was. Everyone avoided us. As soon as we ate we packed up and left. Could've walked out without paying as we saw no one except the bartenders who said bye. We spent about 2 hours here having what was supposed to be a quick lunch. Shortened our time to enjoy the town. The cocktails looked nice and probably best for drinks....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeautiful decor inside and out from the flowers adorning the ceilings and walls to the massive gazebo out in the garden, design is on point for the name of the place alright.
Drinks reasonably priced £5.25 for an aspalls cider, £7.95 for a cocktail with other more adventurous cocktails a bit more expensive.
Served by a very knowledgable lady who couldnāt help you out more if she tried, nothing was too much to ask which is brilliant to see on an opening weekend for serving food. Plenty of staff walking about and serving drinks behind the bar and taking orders.
Only qualms on the roast were that I had no crackling but I didnāt realise that till Iād finished my meal so it wasnāt an issue, plus the roast potato was a bit hard to cut. Mentioned these things to the staff member who served us and it was taken on to the chef but it wasnāt that big of a deal as it was a really great meal with lovely decor around the place.
Ample outside seating with gazebo covering so you will be covered if it rains, toilets are upstairs but there are disabled toilets out in the...
