On our arrival, as soon as we walked in, we had disappointment , The room was dark, turned the lights on, I could see the dusts flying (I have video evidence of that) I didn't want to fuss about it immediately as we were tired. we slept, and the next day after we had a word with a duty manager, they placed us into a different room, which was much, much better. Then the first room.but in the rooms (both) smoke alarms were blinking and disturbed us so slept sideways.also early morning I could hear that a girl or young woman she was kinda crying didn't know where the noise waw coming from and no phone was available to speak to anyone from the reception Actually, they are advertising it as a hotel, but in reality, it's a kinda upgraded type of hostel.it appeals for the younger generation, not the classic type of hotel guests Loud music in the lobby area , young people (boys-men) everywhere sitting playing with play stations table tennis etc. My son and I had to wait for 2 hours to play table tennis, On Friday morning, we wanted to have some breakfast at the entry of the cafe. we were greeted with a lovely tall young lady. I was assuming that by then, she was a supervisor, and she informed us what to do and how to order the breakfasts, given us choice of list by a small printed paper, 15 minutes after we sat down, nobody came and asked us about our order, so I had to get up and ask a member of the waiting staff that we are ready to order our choice of breakfast,Anyway our order taken then my little boys breakfast (pancake) arrived 5 minutes after our orders taken. 30 minutes after that, my breakfast was not on the sights. I had a word with the same members of the staff, and he apologized and then returned back 5 minutes later and said the chef is preparing your breakfast, sir. Anyway, strangely, that failed as well. An hour after I ordered my breakfast, We left the restaurant without my breakfast arrived on the way to the high street. I was trying to explain to the receptionist young lady about my experiences, then the waiter, who took our orders in first place, came and said Sir your breakfast is ready!""" I answered to him that I waited an hour, which is a disgrace, too late I don't want it. So I had to go to a cafe on the high street to have brunch! That was for the morning experiences, Then same again Saturday evening I was trying to order some drinks from the bar but the barman was dealing with another customer (fair enough) but despite other members of the bar staff going in and out of the bar nobody asked me for anything,I was even trying to get attention with my eyes but ignored than after 10 minutes or so (wasn't a crowded evening) my order was taken An hour after that I wanted to get something but sadly despite I was the only customer who was waiting to being served I was ignored 2 young lady inside of the bar were busy talking so I had to raise my voice civil way and asked them to serve and reminded them that I was waiting for 10 minutes.one of them apologised.
Another important point was That hotels facilities are supposed to be considered for the hotels customers not the residents friends etc I seen people who are just visiting their friends they were all using the facilities like table tennis , play stations, study tables phone lap top devices charges occupied by them. That place is a very vibrant place, but once again, it's a kinda upgraded type of hostel It's not for classic hotels users not for families or mature age people When you go to a hotel, you can deal with bunch of receptionists who can deal with you instead of waiting to be check in and out, etc. Also, people as well as residents I saw members (kitchen) teams gathering and smoking by the entrance of the hotel Which was not so professional , hygienic, and presentable,
SUNDAY MORNING A function room in the reception area used for the religious groups, then suddenly people from outside were flooding into the reception area.SHOCKING !! A CHURCH SERVICE IN A HOTEL TOTALLY SHOCKING...
Read moreHonest review for students thinking about booking a student stay:
I've lived in the Social Hub Glasgow for 5 months during my semester abroad. It was very convenient that they accept stays for less than an academic year, the facilities looked modern and I was looking forward to all the events. The room itself (Single) is pretty small and designed for a hotel stay rather than student accommodation. It lacks a real closet and more storage space. However, the room was clean, modern and the single bed bigger than expected. I really like the chromecast feature of the tv and the spacious shower in the bathroom. My room was pretty dark most of the time because it was facing the courtyard and no sunlight came through my window. I loved all of the events, especially the arts & crafts events and they are a great opportunity to connect with other students or co-workers. I've met many friends there or at the Monday Morning Coffee, which I really enjoyed. The staff at the reception, in the restaurant/cafe/bare are always kind, especially Daniela at the front desk. In my first weeks at the Social Hub we had a fire alarm in the middle of the night every other day, which was quite annoying and (thankfully) just false alarms. Recently it only happend about once a month. There was one issue that never got resolved: The shared kitchen. Students share a kitchen with up to 10-15 people. The first time I walked into my kitchen I was shocked because there was rotten meat in the sink and the ovens smelled so bad like rotten fish that I couldn't use them. Students are supposed to clean after themselves, but according to the kitchen cleaning schedule the kitchens will be deep cleaned once a month. That obviously didn't happen in that kitchen for a long time. The cleaning crew is also supposed to clean the surfaces, furniture, outsides of cabinets & microwaves, fridge twice a week. Most of the time they only took out the trash. I was glad that I could move to another room and kitchen after a month. The kitchen was way better for the first weeks, but then someone new moved in and the kitchen got worse than ever. The kitchen was deep cleaned twice in four months. In April and May no deep clean took place. The state of the kitchen was horrible and the smell so disgusting that I couldn't cook anymore. Me and my flatmate complained to the reception multiple times and asked for a deep clean or consequences for the person who caused this mess. More than a friendly email to remind every student to clean up after themselves didn't happen. When I asked about the deep clean I was told that 'the cleaners won't clean anymore until we show an effort to keep our kitchen clean' and that it's 'our job to communicate better with each other'. This was really frustrating because 1) Students pay a lot of rent which INCLUDES cleaning services 2) collective punishment is not fair 3) I didn't know who caused this mess 4) the kitchens weren't even cleaned before the new students arrived, we had to clean out spoiled food and wash the dishes from previous students. We put up post it notes, wrote on the board and tried to set up a kitchen WhatsApp Group with the student manager. Someone just didn't care about all of that and will continue to behave like that if there are no real consequences (e.g. extra fees).I wish the Social Hub would take the issues the students are facing more seriously, especially because it used to be called 'The Student Hotel'. I had the feeling that Hotel Guests were treated differently. I had to spend a lot of extra money on pre-made food or eating out and couldn't move out without paying for the whole stay anyway. There will be always someone who doesn't respect the shared kitchen space and this issue will continue. At this point it's just a matter of time until pests show up. I don't regret staying at the Social Hub because of the events and the friends I've made, but I wouldn't book a...
Read moreAfter driving up from the London, ready to do some work in Glasgow the next day after a good night's sleep, and then make the 7hr return journey I was treated to 3 long bouts of what was presumably a Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen DIY show in an adjacent room ELECTRIC POWER DRILLING into my wall at 12am, 1am and 2:30am - each time lasting what I presume was a whole episode.
Now call me naïve but I'd have said that building work after midnight would be an unadvisable trait for the successful running of a hotel, one that presumably should include the ability to sleep for more than an hour before being subjected to Tim "The Toolman" Taylor (90's TV reference apologies) deciding he would test out the levels of power into a guest's walls.
At £154 for the night it could well be argued this was not a budget choice.
The night staff were either unable or unwilling to stop the night time drilling.
The Social Hub, admitting to the disturbance, and offered a paltry £30 for the inconvenience of not sleeping until 3:30am.
I asked them to reconsider this offer, considering that ultimately "sleep" was my primary intention, and I was passed on to management.
They never replied to my email.
So - please note that this hotel costs £154 to stay but luckily, if you do not want to sleep and you enjoy the monotonous drone of a 1300W drill next to your pillow, it only costs £120 which could be considered a bargain!
(Legally I should probably point out the chances of it actually being Mr LB are very very unlikely)
** The Social Hub have replied below... They say they had "no power over stopping" the electric drilling. Just think about that for a second...
IT WAS IN THEIR HOTEL!? Hahaha. This wasn't outside. This was in a room next to mine. How on earth could they have "no power" to stop drilling after midnight in their own hotel!?!?!? That is nonsensical.
Their response also shows they think £30 is a fair swap for keeping their guests awake all night WHILST ALSO MAKING THEM PAY £120 for that privilege. In what world would anyone think that you'd be happy to still be paying £120 to stay in a room with electric drilling next door?
Clearly unacceptable. But hey - thanks to the management for finally taking the time to reply, albeit publicly here**
