I lived at Unite Students Blackfriars (Block 6) from September 2023 to February 2024, and the experience was deeply disappointing. From day one, I was placed just a few feet from a Unite construction site and subjected to months of loud, disruptive noise - revving engines, hammering, shouting - often from 8am to 4pm, sometimes even earlier or later. It seriously affected my ability to study, especially during exam season. Despite repeatedly raising concerns with the University of Glasgow’s Accommodation Services (who handled complaints on Unite’s behalf), I was met with delays, vague updates, and a refusal to take proper accountability. I was misled about the length of the construction - told it would last only five weeks- and any relocation options offered came at a higher cost, even though none of this disruption was my fault. After getting nowhere with the University or Unite, I ended up reporting the situation to the National Codes of Standards for breaching at least nine codes. Only after that was I finally able to move out. This experience caused months of stress, sleep disruption, and serious strain on my studies. I wouldn’t recommend this accommodation to anyone expecting a peaceful, honest, or student-focused living environment.

Booked a year ago and wasn't made aware of the work that was scheduled to be done this year. Constantly got noise going on, not even quiet, it's the most noisy thing I've ever experienced. Happened early morning to late at night. And then it got delayed and now it's going on on Saturdays, just what you need as a full time student. Really badly affected my year of studying so now have to resit the year I am in and because of this I have to pay my own tuition fees. So thank you unite truly. And the balcony view is obstructed absolute joke

They don’t care about the noise at all. They do lots of work building while you are living in. It is supposed to be a student accommodation and we cannot study neither sleep. These are videotapes to show how is it like. It happens all business days monday to friday 8AM-5PM.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE + INCONSIDERATE POLICY + IRRESPONSIBILITY

I booked an ensuite room from Jan to July 2021. Due to the Covid-19 variant, my plane was cancelled in Jan which made me unable to travel to Glasgow and the room remained empty for the whole tenancy.

They had a flexible-checkin policy that enables a partial refund to customers, but finally I got nothing back because I didn't move-in! I don't think it's a considerate policy for international students whose schedules were interrupted by the travel ban during the Covid period. As I know, many students lost all of their rents(one year) for the same reason.

What annoyed me most was their customer service. I sent them at least 6 same emails to ask one simple question, they used more than 2 months to get back to me! They only replied on Monday and every time they had different staff asked me to verify my identity, and then I needed to re-send the message and start again!

I also booked a £65 arrival pack from their commercial partner on the United Students official website. When I got back to them and asked for a refund since I don't need that any more, the Unite Students told me that they couldn't find the booking information or the pack, however, their commercial partner told me that they had delivered the pack but now is unable to track it! Thank god I didn't really move in or it would be a total disaster when I arrived, and the arrival pack really made non-sense! I should donate the money as I won't really get what I paid for from the United Students!

If you are seeking economical and lovely accommodation, I strongly recommend you to consider university accommodations at first, which really value students' experience and enable you to complain that help them to enhance the service. The United Students could only be a compromise. You can't trust such an irresponsible...

Just moved out after a year of living there. The construction was a constant, ranging from a mild annoyance to complete joke, making your entire room shake (this most likely won’t be an issue with newer tenants but just a warning for any future work). The walls are very thin, allowing you to hear every word your next door flatmate is saying. At many points during the year the heating in the building is cranked up to such an uncomfortable degree that in October the building was disgustingly humid and warm (I had a 4th story room, may be less of an issue on lower floors). Bathroom facilities seemed to be constantly faulty, with my sink and shower both becoming blocked several times throughout the year. The bin situation wasn’t ideal, with rats being pretty common, but I understand this was a direct consequence of the construction, but still wasn’t the nicest before construction had started. Laundry facilities were expensive and were often out of order, making it hard to plan large washing loads. The location of the building is very very good, placing you in the centre of the city with great public transport options. In my experiences all the front desk staff were absolutely lovely, including both day and night staff.

Overall would not highly recommend Unite Blackfriars as it feels like the cons out...

Overall, it’s bad. Noise is one of the biggest trouble. Here is supposed to be a student accommodation, but the constant noise makes you cannot study at your room at all. You cannot even have a good rest. The construction outside, when we started our living here at September, the staff told us it will end in 6~8weeks. But it didn’t. During the whole exam period, I have to bear the noise, that’s really crazy. At that time, the staff told me the construction will be totally done before Christmas. But now, it’s a brand new year already, the construction is still here, the noise is still outside my window, makes me cannot rest or study during day time(even on Saturday!). The other thing is the poor facilities. The room is super tiny, and all the equipments are old and not in good quality. They even don’t change the battery of locks in advance, until you are locked outside your door… And the staff/maintenance they may enter your room when you are not there… I don’t know whether this is a culture shock. Also the rubbish in the yard, terrible.. I’m really worried about what will happen when it comes to summer. And in the past 3 months, we have to walk through the whole rubbish boxes, so smelly every day, feels like live in the rubbish 😢. Overall, not recommended for...
