I discovered this walking in the Tunsgate Quarter in Guildford. Walking through the entrance way and up the stairs, you are expecting a small eaterie. But no. The ambience is formidable. You feel like you are in an Edwardian London townhouse, the decor, wallpaper seems it is from the Arts & Craft movement. The service is helpful, efficient and friendly. The menu was superb and it appears to cater to all tastes, it even offers vegan fish & chips. I had half roast lemon & thyme chicken and enjoyed immensely. I highly recommend this place.

Two Years later i would only give it 3 stars.

When I first discovered Cosy Cube 2 years ago, I awarded the eatery 5 stars and was full of praise for Cosy Club. However, two years later – very disappointed. We went there for lunch on the first day of their re-opening. Our first encounter with front of house was a person I would describe as very brusquely and perhaps needs some lessons in communication, he certainly was not showing any people’s skills. However, that cannot be said about the waitress who served us – she was a pure delight. I ordered a cup of tea which was served in a teapot, a cup, and a small jug of milk. However, no sugar or teaspoon. When I asked for sugar, I was given one packet of cubed sugar enough for one cuppa but not for a second. (I know this looks minutiae, but you will see why I have written this – later) I ordered a beef burger and my friend a veggie burger both served with French fries. When it was served, I asked for some ketchup this was served in the minutest of bowls containing about 10g of sauce. They were rather surprised I asked for another one as my friend wanted sauce with her dish. I abhor restaurants that seem to want to control your condiment and sugar intake. For dessert I wanted apple tarte and was told that they had no apples and put it down to delivery shortage of drivers. Yet Cosy Club is about 75 metres from a Sainsbury. Real customer service would be a member of staff went to Sainsbury and brought enough apples, so customers like me would not have been disappointed when we order an apple dish. I discovered if you leave a cash tip, your server gets the complete amount. But, if you pay by card and you add a tip to that amount, this is shared with all members of staff. I paid in cash so the really delightful waitress got the...

So what started out as a terrible experience ended on a high. We arrived for lunch around 2pm on Sunday 10th, the restaurant seemed busy but not in a way that the staff couldn’t handle or do a proper job. We were asked to wait around 20 mins for a table, fine. After about 35 mins it started to get a tad confusing as we sat in the bar/waiting area overlooking a bunch of empty tables - remember this fact. What made it worse was at LEAST 2 couples had arrived after and been seated before us (after seemingly complaining of the wait) we aren’t the people to moan so we sat patiently. After it seemed to happen a 3rd time it got a bit much and we finally asked politely to be seated. As soon as we asked we were seated - in the table we had been overlooking when we were waiting the whole time!

We had noticed after ordering food finally we had been in the restaurant for about 1 hour and 35 mins before even putting a single piece of food in our mouths. Food finally arrived and while it was absolutely delicious and worth waiting for my partners had a long thick dark (what seemed to be from a beard) hair.

This kinda was the last straw and we thought it atleast have to mention the hair let alone all the other negative experience.

The manageress came over and seemed genuinely distraut at our experience, she even seemed to list al the previous things that had happened when we hadn’t even mentioned them - clearly showing that she had been conscious of what was going on in her dining room the whole time. Attention to detail was great and she offered to cover the cost of our meal and even refund us for 2 coffees we got whilst waiting for the table (we nearly refused as getting the whole meal free was plenty)

The whole experience for us was changed when we could see how genuinely upset and concerned for our experience she was when offering us reparations for all of the above.

Moral is: sometimes people forget things, we’re human. Hair isn’t superglued to our bodies - it happens. No one feels weird when it’s their own that falls in so you can’t go mad when it happens to be someone else’s.

We will go back again as the food was great, the atmosphere was great and we realised the staff actually do give a damn when faced with the chance to make...

Came here as a large family group , the decor is interesting and the layout is ‘cosy’ if a little dark. Service was initially really good and things looked good from the moment the starters arrived. The lamb salad was tasty as was the bang bang cauliflower, and the garlic prawns. It went a bit wrong when the mains came out , two of us had ordered the duck confit , it’s a pretty simple dish that is usually really tasty , it was served with dauphinois potatoes , green beans and gravy.

The duck legs on the plates however were possibly the smallest ones i have ever seen , looked more like a large chicken wing, we did query this and didn’t really seem to get a response , the dauphinois was dry , the duck certainly wasn’t the melt in the mouth experience you would expect from confit of duck , green beans and gravy were tasty though. Considering it was the 2nd most expensive main it was quite frankly a rip off.

By contrast the Caesar salad that one of the party ordered was huge and far more filling meal than the duck confit.

Rib eye steak was good and cooked well and the duck salad was well received.

One of the party had a burger which they thought was dry and overcooked., the accompanying coleslaw was bland and soggy , fries served in the customary tiny metal pot.

We did ask to speak to the manager but they didn’t ever turn up and we had to leave to catch a train so couldn’t be bothered to wait any longer .

The bill was nearly £450 and for the quality and quantity we weren’t impressed.

Definitely chain dining with a case of style over substance , won’t be rushing back anytime soon.

Edit- thank you for the response , as no one spoke with me I asked other members of the group , the only thing they recall was when two went to the toilet they spoke with the waitress to say the issue was not a reflection on her , there was a male standing with her but there was no conversation with him, perhaps you are mistaken or it was another table you are...

Great spot for food and drink, nice decor, painting on the walls. Great service, even when busy. Burger was really good. Just a tad bit pricey.
