Visited The Moorhen again after hearing good things, sometime ago they changed from ordering at bar to full table service. The prices for drink are responsible and all the staff were friendly. Our table was booked at 6pm and the restaurant was mostly full, which is nice to see. I went straight to a main as could not find anything to my liking on Starters and unfortunately, I ordered one of my favourite mains Gammon, egg, pineapple, peas and chips. I asked for running egg and was ensured all are running. I order this meal regularly too and know this one had stood under the heat lamps waiting on the other dish, the egg was over done, which as soon as it arrived I asked to be changed, not realising the gammon had dryed out on one side and the rest of the food was luke warm. No one come asking how the meals were until the egg come back, too late, and that was snotty. We all have that decision to make, eat a bit or try and get it replaced and you both eat alone. If the waitress had come and asked I would have ask for a fresh meal so ate a little as they never did come to give me the option to change, which was happening around us on other tables. I ask for the bill and paid with tip and mention and she was genuine when she said she missed us, asking how our dinners were. I could see many nice looking meals and the fish and chips were hot and nice. I will not, not go back but there are many restaurants that get these thing right. Would recommend they get there timing better. Its just a shame as first evening out since Christmas and my turn to have a drink. Give it a try. Pub by the river for families, good food and drinks. The lady who served me was really good, Thank you

Lovely restaurant but seems severely understaffed. I had to clean/disinfect my own table as there were no clean tables, big enough for 4 adults. The atmosphere is lovely and has nice music. We had burgers, fish and chips and the full rack of BBQ ribs. The food was served VERY QUICKLY after placing out order and I was apprehensive; I was right unfortunately as it was really mediocre , like it was prepared hours ago and heated in a microwave. Seasoning was not a thing either. I couldn't even have half of my ribs, they were really not well cooked. The chips were really good and the drinks nice. Overall, I feel it's a lovely pub for a drink only but not for hot food. By the way, when I went to order, the person taking the order had to leave my order in the middle and pass it on to another colleague as he claimed he had to be somewhere. That resulted in me having to explain to the second person that I had paid for a beer , causing further delays and confusion. It's with great sadness that I have to mention the mess in staffing as it's clear that all members are very hard working. So I'm really thankful for their efforts. Seems management has to do changes, especially if they want to charge that much. Edit: my review was read to my party of 4 and they all agreed that it was a fair representation of what transpired. Respectfully, the owner spends way too much time on reviews to defend the establishment and criticize the customers. I wonder if leaving plates and dirty tables way after customers are gone is a good tactic. Yes, we were in the bar area. And yes the empty tables there had plates and glasses from previous customers. And no, it's not my job to fetch an employee to clean up and this is self explanatory so I'm not going in further details. As for the food, I'm a big foodie (both in attitude and in size 😆) and I can tell the difference between boiled and grilled meat. And by the way I never had corn so watery that it was splashing my friend opposite me at every bite. Thank you for the time reading my review and dear pub owner try to be less defensive online and more proactive in person. Be blessed and best of luck xx

Unfortunately their website wasn't working/allowing bookings to go through so we turned up and got to sit in the bar instead. The greeter was a bit of a cheeky chap, didn't want to believe the site was down as "other people managed to book". He then proceeded to show me Google. I explained that's not their webpage, and then to click through to the booking to get the page not found issue. Shock horror I was finally proven correct. I don't understand why exactly he was contesting me, but I was glad to be proven right. I also dont understand what the point was I'm such a busy time but obviously it was important to him. Finally he managed to let me know they didn't have a table and we alighted to the bar side. Menus are rather mucky, but tye one lady behind the bar was an absolute automaton, she was doing 4 things at once and very quick and efficient. She is a perfect choice for the more customer facing roles. Give her a raise as she wasn't wasting time and seemed to be doing 2 people's jobs singlehandedly. Just had our food delivered to the table, lovely tasty dishes. 1 all American, 1 chicken burger with lovely onion rings and chips - not greasy at all. 1 gammon steak that melted in the mouth and a very generous superfood salad with a nice size piece if chicken. All clean tasting and freshly cooked, you wouldn't think it was a chain pub/restaurant.

Visited as a group of 6 to the Moorhen on a Saturday around 6pm. We found a nice table outside in the dining area, attempted to order food and were told that the garden had been closed for food (at around 18:10?) and that we must go inside to eat even whilst the weather was so good. We attempted to go upstairs into the dining area to be told that the dining area was full and that we must sit in the bar area, we found a table and ordered at the bar. I ordered the 12oz Rump Steak special, advertised on all the table toppers with a beer and a sprite, £25ish, I was offered no receipt and a queue was forming due to the sluggish nature of the service. My food arrived (pictured) the steak was ordered medium rare and came well done. I was missing the Mac and cheese that came with the meal as they had sold out and had to highlight this to a server who didn't know what to do. For the bar staff, kitchen and the food server not to know what comes with the meal or not to highlight it to me was cheeky. I was brought onion rings by way of apology. Overall, the pub feels mismanaged. The bar staff didn't know the till system, bar staff stick to only their station/responsibilities and the place seemed overrun with glasses. Oh and also, bring cutlery with the meals. It Wetherspoons and all the other chains can do it then it makes you look lazy.

Came for dinner tonight with friends and it was incredibly busy - we were sat on the bar side which is absolutely fine and we were expecting a wait for the food. When the food arrived, the waiter attempted to remove a hair from my plate before putting it down but was unsuccessful. I pulled in the hair myself and it was fully embedded in the food. I sent the food back and was told I’d receive a replacement. About 5 minutes later I received a plate of food, which was incredibly quick considering the previous longer wait. I’d taken a photo of the plate before I’d sent it back, and checked it against my ‘new’ plate of food. The chips had moved and hunters chicken pot had been turned around, but you can’t change the shape of the chicken and there was no denying it was the same plate. A manager refunded for my meal which I of course didn’t eat, so it was rectified at the time, but it wasn’t a pleasant visit so thought I’d share my review.

Had breakfast here and was super impressed. I had a full breakfast and the fiance had pancake stacks. Wish I took a pic to show you just how good presentation was. It tasted as good as it looked. down side is they now have calories on their menu so my breakfast came to over a 1000 calories! I did not like the guilt trip as I eat healthy all week and this was my treat lol. Also toilet down stairs which is not great as I'm disabled with tourettes and seizures and had to go outside down ramp and all the way round to access toilet. Great staff and really friendly. Enjoyed it that much I'm bringing my friends back with me over the weekend. Will add pics of food then 😁 Went back for dinner today and had the chicken skewer. Really enjoyed it and looked great. Only criticism is that they put salad and dressing over my ciabatta so the salad dressing made it a bit soggy and hard to eat.
