Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious tome of forgotten lore...
I was looking for a place to spend time with friends that wasn't a pub, which in Hastings is quite difficult to do in the evenings. Then I remembered this gem of a place, nestled between the Old Town and the cliffs, it offers a refuge for those of us that harbour a desire to get lost into many worlds and yet find a familiar place to return to week upon week. When my group and I arrived, we were met by a welcoming atmosphere and possibly the friendliest game store worker I have ever met.
Shaun/Sean/Shawn/However he spells it immediately made us feel like we were in the right place and was quick and efficient at explaining how the system here works.
We played Ticket to Ride from their shelves, and I honestly haven't had more fun playing a board game. I think it might be a staple game for me from now on.
We also had milkshakes, and while it didn't quite live up to Gwen Stefani's 2006 prophecy, it certainly will be enough to bring this boy back to the yard time and again.
We had planned on staying for two hours or so, but ended up leaving at closing time, wishing only that we could have remained.
I cannot rate this place highly enough, and if any person reading this is wondering how anyone could wax lyrical about about a place they have visited so little, I would implore you to make the trip and see for yourself.
... And I will...

Tonight was my first visit after the wife had been with her friends a load of times ( yes I was jealous) and me having the children at home! Well tonight we went as a family!
This place is awesome! The vibe is super cozy and fun, perfect for hanging out with friends and family. The food blew me away, not just because it was tasty but because it was unbelievably cheap for what you get. Not to mention it’s all made fresh to order! Total win in my eyes especially for today’s prices when you dine out.
And the staff? They’re awesome—super friendly, happy to help you pick a game, and even explain the rules if you’re new. Also the memory… he’s good, remembering my wife’s order which again is a win!
The games… wow. The selection is huge! They’ve got everything from quick party games to those epic strategy ones that take hours. It’s impossible to get bored here. And if it can keep a pre teen of a device with no arguing it’s a definite win!
Honestly, it’s one of those spots you can easily lose track of time in, our time flew by😔 Great atmosphere, amazing value, and endless fun, it’s on our list as a new family night...
Read moreWe only had a few days to spend in Hastings, and as I huge board game fan, I went crazy as soon as I've found out there was a friendly board game cafe next door. So, even though we didn't have much time (and the beautiful weather kept us outdoors rather than playing games - damn you, sun! haha) we visited Gary's most welcoming board game cafe to have lunch bite. Even though the food didn't take too long at all (leaving me some time to look through his awesome collection), Gary surprised us with a quick game to pass the time which a was super nice gesture. He even explained how it worked and we had some genuine laughs. The food was great and made to order (the vegan options are really exquisite!) just as the smoothies. Also surprisingly cheap, so make sure you leave s generous tip for him to grow his board game collection. 😉 My partner had to rush back to work while I remained to discuss some cooperative game suggestions of his. Even though there are plenty of options in London, I still cannot wait to visit Hastings soon again and give those game a go - and even play with Gary himself if we is not...
