Had lunch with my family and honestly was not impressed. After 23 year working in catering maybe I observe everything and always hope I will eat something and say amazing overall ,food and service.Unfortunatelly this does not happened at Porters. When is a busy day you are more comprehensive about the service, is logical but when it comes to the food there is no justification. We tried 2 "roast chicken "and "slow cooked pork belly" 1- ordered pork belly ,came roast beef. 2 slices of pork belly with vegetables for £ 17.95( this price was on the bill instead of £16.96.) The plate was overall cold with the potatoes looked still just came out from the fridge. One of the two slices of pork belly was hard and not cooked with no flavour. The other one was tender. 2-the "Roast chicken " literally it was one separate single piece of independent small leg and the half of the half of the chicken breast. !! With vegetables and gravy.all of this for £15.95 .in every single supermarket the whole chicken is not more than £5 .but this is relative. The most important was that there was No ROAST CHICKEN but just 2 separate slices cooked as chef wished. Testless ,no flavour. 3-asked for the bill. Different prices in the menu Different on the bill.i can imagine this is a routine ,from my experience people are bored with their life and just want to relax with a couple of drinks , imagine going in details to check if the prices are matching with the one on menu.( at the the end they will say lovely and delicious 🤣) On the bill it was roast beef for £17.95 instead of pork belly I had. I asked this to the waitress to change it .she went and changed only the name of beef in to pork belly .price remained the same £17.95. Cheese garlic bread was £4.95 on the menu. On the bill was £5.25. Asked again to check the prices which the more experienced waitress did and I am sure dhe did not have any problem to do that but I am sure she did not realise this might has become a routine and people never noted. As I said after 23 years working in catering personally I will feel lucky if I do not get food poison.the quality is just optional. I understand how hard the waitress try to make everybody happy and did not complaint to them.but the kitchen has their rules and normally think to be the best . Not on this occasion. At least they should probe the temperature when reheating. (I doubt they never...
Read moreService has really gone downhill. Such a shame as I've eaten here for 20 years. Never had to send food back but the aubergine and sprouting broccoli salad was a bunch of lettuce leaves with tasteless oil dressing, a teaspoon of quinoa and handful of pomegranate seeds and zero broccoli...after asking, hot broccoli was then sent to the table and more tasteless dressing. We asked to change it as it was literally tasteless and the wait staff were happy to do this. The sea bass was delicious but my sisters husband had to eat separately. We were asked if we wanted another drink and assumed this was on the house. When the bill arrived I questioned it politely and friendly as I have never complained before.
The attitude of Martine front of house manager was incredibly rude and confrontational. Zero customer service skills which made me very disappointed. I asked to cancel my table next week for 4 of us locals...she made a statement of getting the book and crossing out my name for theatrics and went on to have a cigarette outside complaining about me to the kitchen staff.
I don't think I have ever been treated with such contempt. We paid the bill and left. Such a shame. It wasn't the fact that she refused to take the drinks off the bill, more the way in which she dealt with the situation. I certainly won't go back and neither will my many friends and their partners. In a time where cost of living is high, a meal out is a treat and the basics I expect is politeness...
Read moreWe went here for my mums 50th birthday. The service was ok asked a few questions such as soup of the day which she didn’t know. The food we had all came with veg. The carrots were basically raw to put a steak knife through them was tough and the green beans were very crunchy and near raw. The mash with the pork belly was very lumpy. The deserts we had were underwhelming. However the kids ice cream was good. The biscoff cheesecake was very bland had no taste of biscoff. The crumble wasn’t a normal crumble topping it was just like crushed biscuit. The crumble didn’t come with custard like said on the menu. Nor was there sorbet that was meant to come with the cheesecake. The children’s deserts were brought out before we even had a desert order taken for the adults. The kids meals were meant to come with peas however came with cucumber and tomato which we weren’t told about. These few mishaps or little mistakes added up and lead to a rather disappointing experience especially on such a special occasion. Also my child who’s legs were under the table came out filthy. she had white tights on and around the knees and on the lower leg...
