Bruno's Fish Bar — Restaurant in Hastings

Had a takeaway from here on Friday night and I’m sorry to say but I think this must’ve been the worst fish I’ve ever eaten. I’m baffled as to why the other reviews are so good, because our experience of the food was the polar opposite. The chips were ok, but the cod was astoundingly bad; once I’d managed to saw through the dry, solid batter, the fish inside was so overcooked that it was as if it’d come out of a stew. Cod should be flakey and melt in your mouth. It was a really big portion of fish, but sadly inedible. Very annoying when you’re paying nearly £10 for each piece. I think this was the first time I’ve seen my partner unable to finish a meal! Weirdly, while the batter on my cod was hard and dry and old, the batter on my partner’s fish was soggy and oily, despite supposedly being fried at the same time. The children’s portion of nuggets also had the same overcooked, old consistency. It’s the first time we’ve eaten here so perhaps this was just a bad time of night to go in, but actually no fish & chip shop should be selling fish (or nuggets) in this sorry state, especially one in a seaside town and working fishing town. It really was fit only for the bin. I’ve given 5 stars for the service as they were very friendly, but they really need to up their game...

Food is really poor unfortunately. Have been 5 times and and large fish is so small .or not cooked enough Not even size of medium . One occasion fish cake was so ivercooked it was pretty much inedible. Is a shame as staff who run seem very friendly but maybe they should look at going into a different business as fish and chip shop is not for them.

I would recommend the staff from this fish and chip go to the mermaid in hastings old town and see what real large cod and chips should be like

I was very happy to see this chip shop re open, and my first visit here i was not disappointed, the food was freshly cooked while i waited to take away and was hot and very enjoyable. Service was friendly too. I returned for another takeaway this eve, but have to say i was disappointed. The cod was lovely, and warm as expected, but the chips where lukewarm/cold.
