Had been walking for ages and everywhere was full. We chanced upon this place and were not to sure as we had kids and the pub was full. However, we went to the restaurant out back and from that moment we were so happy we had found this pearl. Waitress was lovely and great with the kids (1930 by now, tired children) not a massive selection on offer (half dozen of each course) but you don't need a big selection when it tastes this good! A definite recommend to everyone. Seafood wasn't advertised, but i wasn't disappointed and we all were more than happy with all our courses. The wine list again not exstensive but a couple of winners in each section is all they neeeded to keep this party of 6 on a saturday over the moon! Thank you for a lovely evening. P.S. had time for a swift half in the pub on leaving of their own golden a ale, agsin a complete winner. I'm gutted not to live...

A good traditional real ale pub serving their own beer plus a couple of guests. It is cosy towards the back of the pub where the fire is but the front can get draughty on chilly day.

TBH I’m no longer a great fan of homebrew pubs. There was a time where these were the best places to get an ale other than a national or large regional brewer beer. But those days are gone with the microbrewery revolution and I can’t help thinking pubs selling beer and breweries making beer is the best model. The FILO’s own beer is fine but unsensational.

What turns me off this pub is the expensive food. I’m not saying the food isn’t worth the money, but sometimes you just want a cheap lunchtime snack costing £5-6 rather than £9-15. Sure they make their money from food but given the pub’s popularity I can’t help thinking someone’s...

What a fantastic find Filo is! My visit this week was absolutely grand. From the moment you step in, the atmosphere is wonderfully oldschool and incredibly welcoming. The people there are genuinely great, and the food is truly excellent. Their beer selection is, without a doubt, the best I've had in a while.

And what a pleasant surprise – the toilets were spotless, complete with hand soap and even hand cream! I was seriously impressed by that attention to detail.

For food, my absolute favorite was the combination of prawns, calamari, and Welsh rarebit. Absolutely delicious! Next time, I'll definitely be asking for a little extra sauce with my Welsh rarebit, as I like it extra saucy.

Highly recommend Filo for anyone looking for a proper, welcoming...

Visited today (Tuesday) for lunch and was surprised to see it was v. busy. Tables had been reserved in the front bar, so we went out the back, with the dog. The food was very good, one had fried cod (they had run out of plaice) and chips served with mint pea sauce (mushy peas?) with salad. Another had pan fried sea bass served with a potato & onion mash with a mustard dill sauce and green beans wrapped in courgette slice i.e. v. well presented (see photos). We had time for coffees served with a biscuit each. Time was limited as we had parked earlier, gone for a walk up East Cliff then returned for a quick lunch. We returned to the car with seconds to spare thanks to Adam and his team.

It's nice place, a bit isolated from the old town, we were nearby quite a lot, but it was our first visit, we have tried several local beer, which were delicious, we will back again for sure

Definitely a favourite in Hastings, huge advantage is if you love real ale, these guys make it themselves just up the road. They usually have 4 of their own ales on hand pump. The food is absolutely fantastic too, with a regularly changing menu and also food theme nights. At the time of writing it's Thai on Mondays and Thali on Thursdays. Food service is 12-3pm and 6-9pm and they take card payments. We opted for pan fried sea bass on a bed of crushed potatoes in a lemon caper sauce and a lovely fish pie. This was followed by an excellent sticky toffee pudding. Highly recommend booking for evening dinner as it gets very busy, but that's just because it's so good!
