I’m not one for negative reviews but after my last visit I sadly won’t be visiting again, Hanushka has been my go-to coffee spot for a long while but each visit has slowly become a worse experience..
I haven’t felt very welcomed in my last few visits but this week I wasn’t greeted and I felt like I was a nuisance for ordering a coffee.
I also really have to mention the smell, which again, has become much worse with time. When close to the kitchen, I used to be able to smell the kitchen drains but you couldn’t smell them in the rest of the cafe… the smell has gotten much worse over time and now it’s all I can smell when I open the door, I can’t sit inside anymore sadly it’s quite strong.
Really a shame to see the standards slip over time as I love this coffee spot for sit in and take away and the food options are always beautiful (lots of vegan and gluten free if needed). But my last visit was really...
Read moreOne of the nicest (underrated word i.m.o.) cafes I have ever visited. Friendly and efficient staff. Interesting mix of customers of all ages. Some lovely dogs as well..... Rose flower and pistachio cake for £2.90 a slice (enough for two) perfectly balanced composition - not too much buttercream but enough so it was moist; beautifully decorated with white chocolate shavings and dried rose petals (yes real ones). One minor negative, the (English) tea was a bit weak and could have done with two teabags but then tea strength is a matter of taste.
Re the comment about card payments below, the banks take a fixed fee per transaction irrespective of the amount plus a % so the cafe would then make NO profit on the cake if paid on a card as the margins they have on their business will be quite tight. Blame the banks not the cafe even though it would have been annoying at...
Read moreDecent coffee although I personally like mine stronger (you have to appeal to the masses though). Selection of food includes cakes, sandwiches and panini's from what I saw. Nice and cosy though with huge bookshelves (no shortage of reading material) and very relaxed atmosphere albeit in a small area. If coffee and a piece of cake is your thing then you will enjoy..... Update 1/1 New Years day...... George St packed as were the cafés. Managed to find a spot in here (stool for one in the window). Cappuccino (as before) accompanied by a piece of apple pie. Was expecting Cappuccino and 'pie on a plate' but what I received put such a smile on my face I felt the need to update my review. Apologies for the quality of the photo but you get the idea....
