A time-honored British tradition came alive at The Olde Pump House in Hastings as I embarked on a delightful culinary journey with their quintessential Fish and Chips. Nestled within the historic walls of this 15th-century pub, the experience was nothing short of a nostalgic escapade to the heart of tradition. Upon my plate arrived a beautifully presented duo – perfectly golden-brown battered fish paired with a generous serving of golden fries. The initial crunch as I bit into the crispy exterior gave way to the tender, flaky fish within. The batter, a harmonious blend of lightness and crispiness, was a testament to the pub's dedication to culinary craftsmanship. What truly elevated this dish was the quality of the ingredients. The fish, undoubtedly fresh, maintained its natural flavors, accentuated by a delicate seasoning that balanced the oceanic notes. The fries, a true embodiment of the art of frying, retained their fluffy interior while boasting an addictive crunch. In the heart of Hastings, The Olde Pump House keeps the spirit of fish and chips alive, paying homage to a cherished culinary heritage. It's a celebration of simplicity, executed with finesse and a nod to the past. Whether you're a local or a traveler seeking an authentic taste of British culture, this classic dish at The Olde Pump House is an experience that shouldn't be missed. Nick

My family and I visited Ye Olde Pump House in Hastings for lunch, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience! The charming Ye olde pump house ambiance instantly caught my attention, setting the perfect tone for a delightful meal. The highlight of our visit was the mouthwatering steaks that were cooked to absolute perfection. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and it's clear that the chefs at The Ye olde Pump House take their craft seriously. But it wasn't just the food that made our day; the impeccable service and inviting atmosphere truly stood out. A special shout-out to the bartender, Callan, who went above and beyond to make our dining experience memorable. Callan's friendly demeanor and extensive local knowledge added a personal touch to our visit. It's not every day that you encounter such a warm and knowledgeable staff member! As first-time visitors to Hastings, we feel incredibly fortunate to have chosen The Pump House for our meal. It's safe to say that we're already planning our next visit. If you're looking for a place with delectable food, exceptional service, and a charming ambiance, The Pump House is the place to be. Kudos to the entire team, and a big thank you to Callan for making our day extra special! Send a message

The last 2 times we came here we have waited forever for our food. We ordered at 1pm on a Thursday (peak time) but there was LOTS of empty tables and chairs, the pub was hardly busy. We ordered 3 lots of fish and chips and told it will be a 30 minute wait as they're "short staffed". Our food arrived after an HOUR. The male waiter made no comment when he placed the food in front of us, no 'sorry about the wait', not a word. Its a shame as its a nice building. But this is NOT a coincidence now, and looking at other reviews it seems we're not the only ones who had to wait an unacceptable amount of time. Next time we visit we will be buying fish and chips from a takeaway and sitting on the beach. The cost of the meal was quite a lot for the quality we received. Pretty average meal. The ketchup is also in old red heinz bottles that are refilled from a different bottle (probably not heinz) you can tell the age of the bottles as their labels are greasy and rank.

We had a great experience here. I went in around 1730 with my two little girls (5 and 7) and the staff were friendly from the off-set. After ordering drinks we chose food and I went and spoke to the barman and told him that I didn’t want to do children’s set menu as the girls had already had ice cream that day and I just got them a drink and so could they have adults sausage and mash and split it. He said of course and when I asked for an extra sausage so they could have two each, he said an extra pound and then said we could have it for free. The food was delicious and I had fish and chips and the veggies, salad an gravy were yummy too. We finished off with a apple crumble and custard and the barman realised we were sharing and gave us cutlery then when it came out, it was huge. I thanked you barman at the end and would definitely return.

Very quaint pup restaurant. You order and pay for the food at the bar and then it's brought to your table once ready. The food was served fairly quickly and was well displayed and tasted good. There were a few veggie and vegan options too, which was good to see. The restaurant wouldn't be wheelchair friendly, although there is an outdoor area downstairs if the weather is good. There was another outside area upstairs which I'd have liked to sat in but it was advertised as a smoking area - nonsmokers have to eat indoors only! But this was my only gripe and I would recommend it, especially if you have a mixture of vegetarians/vegans and 'normal' eaters in your party.

This is a great old building located in Old Hastings on George St. We popped in for a drink, saw someone else's meal, decided to order our own food and another round of drinks. Well the food was great, as was the beer. We ordered an Admiral burger (chicken burger) and a Green Beard burger (spicy bean burger). Both came with chunky chips. The Admiral had slaw, the Green Beard had guacamole and sour cream. The beer was good too, I recommend the Spitfire Amber Ale. Well worth a visit if only to see inside. The venue is very popular.
