A time-honored British tradition came alive at The Olde Pump House in Hastings as I embarked on a delightful culinary journey with their quintessential Fish and Chips. Nestled within the historic walls of this 15th-century pub, the experience was nothing short of a nostalgic escapade to the heart of tradition.
Upon my plate arrived a beautifully presented duo – perfectly golden-brown battered fish paired with a generous serving of golden fries. The initial crunch as I bit into the crispy exterior gave way to the tender, flaky fish within. The batter, a harmonious blend of lightness and crispiness, was a testament to the pub's dedication to culinary craftsmanship.
What truly elevated this dish was the quality of the ingredients. The fish, undoubtedly fresh, maintained its natural flavors, accentuated by a delicate seasoning that balanced the oceanic notes. The fries, a true embodiment of the art of frying, retained their fluffy interior while boasting an addictive crunch.

Read moreFantastic old pub with a great atmosphere. The Guinness and ale were spot on. The food was clearly not standard out-of-the-freezer fayre some pubs serve. All at a very reasonable price. The vegan options were plentiful and varied, not that I'd personally choose them. The staff were welcoming and helpful to a tee. To the point where, on our way out, a member came around from the bar to assist me with the door as I shepherded my 2 large dogs outside. When I told him it wasn't necessary, he explained that I had my hands full with the dogs. Can't rate the experience highly enough, or thank the staff enough, they clearly deserve a pay rise; kitchen and bar. I will be visiting again, when next I eat out in hastings. The only downsides I could find were; the pool table looked like it'd seen more drinks than the tables and wheelchair access seemed like it would be an issue (whichever way you approach the pub involves standard old-town steps), however it wouldn't surprise me if they had measures in place and would gladly...
