Stylish, small and sophisticated sums up this lovely restaurant with only 10 covers. This place shines a welcome light on the best of Hastings New Town, in a quiet pedestrian street, minutes from the sea.
The staff are delightful and the service perfect. But the food is the star of the show. The 10 course tasting menu takes time to enjoy so be prepared as it took us almost 4 congenial hours but very much worth it; the Vila Nova as a companion is definitely worth it. You can't rush food of such high quality with precision presentation.
Clearly, with such a varied menu, we all have favourites however, we found all 10 dishes delicious. My favourites were: mackerel cardamom; cod with tamarind; and gnocchi, onion and mustard seeds.
Each dish is exquisite and beautifully presented. Yes, each dish is no more than a mouthwatering taste but that's the point. By the time our petit fours arrived, we were comfortably replete and felt very satisfied, as we departed, into the peaceful surroundings. Each dish is a gastronomic jewel and Lury provides some very welcome sparkle to Hastings New Town Centre. Congratulations to Jack, the chef/proprietor, and his charming...
Read moreA phenomenal dining experience at Lury!
From start to finish, our evening at Lury was nothing short of exceptional. The 10-course tasting menu was a true culinary journey, each dish crafted with precision and packed with flavor. Standouts included the delicate gnocchi, the beautifully balanced mackerel with kohlrabi and apple and a stunning white chocolate and coffee marshmallow dessert.
The wine selection, though not extensive, was brilliantly curated, and we kicked off the night with an Arrack Old Fashioned that set the perfect tone. The ambience was elegant, intimate, and reflective of the team’s Sri Lankan influences, with a clear emphasis on detail and hospitality.
For a menu of this caliber, the pricing was excellent, this wasn’t just a meal, it was an experience. If you’re looking for a dining event that is refined, creative, and full of surprises, Lury is an...
Read moreHad a great meal for 5 people. The food was exceptional and presented to an high standard. All courses (10) were inventive and brilliantly executed but particular highlights (for me) were the Pork bun with Cardamom butter, Mackerel, Venison, Crab Pasta, Choux Bun and Arrack & Passion Fruit. A simple wine list has been designed to complement all of the courses (we tried one from each category) and the Arrack Old Fashioned is a must have. Service wise, I thought they are finding their feet, but this is to be expected and what soft launches are for. Nothing was glaringly bad and by my own admission I’m a stickler for uniformed place settings and cutlery alignment - but that’s just me. We will all be back and are really looking forward to seeing how the menu develops in the coming months.
Updated to say we’ve booked again for October 25. Looking...
