There were mixed reviews of this place before we went, but we like to make up our own minds.
Initial impressions were good, the decor pleasant and seating very comfortable, although maybe for those with a bigger hip size may have had difficulty with the chairs we had.
Waitress was very pleasant and attentive, listened to any special dietary needs.
Starter came reasonably quickly and gap to main wasn't too bad, considering a party of 8.
The description of one item on the menu didn't come as described, coming with a very hot sauce. A bit of a surprise for the pallett. This was changed for another simple dish but the rest of the group had mostly finished eating by the time it arrived.
Many of the main dishes were missing something describedon the menu, where a cheese was supposed to be included, for instance, or the gherkins to go with the stroganoff and other dishes.
Once the main meal was completed, we were sitting with the empty room plates in front of us for what seemed a considerable time.
Also this meant that drinks which might have been ordered weren't.
The food overall was generally tasty, but after an initial good impression we weren't feeling it and didn't stay to sample the desserts, although they...
Read moreAnother outstanding lunch experience at this gem of a restaurant, which stands head and shoulders above a raft of others in central Hastings. Decked with style and colour, with vibrant paintings adorning the walls, and a table decor to die for, you might expect the food to perhaps fall short, ordering from the fixed lunch menu, but this was absolutely not the case. A very moreish hummus starter was followed by a pork stew that was sublime. Complete steal at £10.50 for two courses, in such a setting you’d want to put your feet up, kick back, and sip their frothy coffee for the rest of the afternoon listening to the perfectly amplified slow jazz. Relaxed, aesthetic, super friendly and laid back, Nur boasts authentic Armenian cuisine that I imagine you could work your way through over the months and never be disappointed. My only surprise is that it’s not packed, with people hanging from the rafters, and coaches rocking up outside. It even has the feel of an art gallery. As long as Nur is here in Hastings, it will be a fixed star in my galaxy. Highly...
Read moreLike most people, mixed feelings for this place. Our greeting was warm although we were the only people in here on a Monday night I know, but you'd expect at least one other table. I found the menu to be quite pricy but I don't mind shelling out if the food lives up to the expectation but unfortunately for this place it doesn't. I had the 'Meat Mixed Grill' and frankly it was as'salt'ing pardon the pun. But every meat was so salty it was like it had been dipped in the sea before serving. A mystery ingredient was bought in from over the road from the "Gourmet Shop Delicatessen" which if I had to guess it would be the sausages. My wife had the Veggie Burger and I'm afraid it isn't great news over there either, she reported bland and tasteless and the chips were the same kind you'd get in a kebab shop. It is a shame because its in a prime location in Hastings but it needs improvement. I wouldn't...
