McDonald's — Restaurant in Hertsmere

This is a review and rating of the branch, not the chain. This branch is below average, having visited several times over a few years.

Of average size it's a conversion of an existing building. The character and ambiance are nothing special. It's opposite Elstree studios, at the end of the high street. It's relatively clean.

It's main drawback appears to be recruitment and retention of suitable staff; or staff training, probably a function of the area. Many are not proactive in sorting out problems as they develop, which makes for a good floor show.

On a recent visit we were treated to a 15 minute delay getting to the car park as a lorry was unloaded at glacial speed. The local operative in a hi-vis jacket could have held up the drive through line and diverted waiting vehicles past to clear the blockage, but smiled, smoked a fast and watched the driver at work on the tail lift, using the roof of a nearby car as a drinks table (I hope it was his own).

Sitting inside, the floor show was provided by an irate drive-through customer complaining that all three of her cheeseburgers contained cheese, but no burger. The attitude of the counter staff suggested they didn't think this particularly unreasonable, at which point the customer lost her patience and told it how it was.

This wasn't even a peak time. Bins overflowing. A duty manager, who must have been reconsidering his career choice if he had a moment to think, floated from crisis to crisis.

Went to the Drive Thru and true to form arrived at collection window to be told (while handing ice cream order over) to park and wait, girl had ice cream around her top lip, very odd, I did ask for fresh ice cream when rest of order ready as this would be melted, didn't go down well.. Parked and waited, several other cars also waiting. Approx 10+ minutes another girl walked over with my order and as I looked into the bag she said "It's all there" and walked off. Well, forgive me for checking, I have in the past returned expecting all items to be there and found chips or burgers missing. There was a wrap in the order which looked as if it had been thrown around as not properly made up and food on outside but still in box, the actual wrap was torn too. Chips none too hot and under cooked. The ice cream was the same as first handed, I had noticed it had ice cream on the cup thingy which was still there and when I got back it was very melted, thanks for that - NOT. It's not been good there for a very long time so after tonight I shall not visit this McD even though it is convenient but, I only get 30 mins meal break and this was rubbish food. Luckily can get to Subway, KFC and chippie so no great hardship for me...

I placed our order via the McDonald's app and was parked in the pick up spot at 10.54pm at the Borehamwood branch. We waited for our order but because we had substituted some stuff I expected to wait and had ordered ice creams and it was a big order we thought it would take time. We watched the driver thru and we waited. I then asked one of the girls in the car to check if our order was being made so she knocked on the door and was told it was being made. So we waited. I then went and knocked and the manager came out and was very defensive and was rather aggressive, he also had 3 of his colleagues with him,which was rather unfair against 1 woman. He said that the order hadn't gone through and it felt like it was my fault. He said he would refund me for the ice creams but that there would be no good will gesture for waiting and or because the order didn't go through. We got the order eventually and left.
