Oakmere Tea & Dining Room — Restaurant in Hertsmere

We went to Oakmere after calling to let them know we wished to dine with our Rottweiler puppy, which they said would be no problem. When we arrived there was a table available outside for us and we were served with the same attention as those inside the restaurant despite it being a busy day for them. We were asked by a gentleman if we would like water for the dog which they brought out in a dog bowl. We were served with a minimal waiting time and they served chicken for our puppy in a wrapped plate so he could eat directly from it. This experience was so brilliant we have previously gone to other "high standard" restaurants where we were forgotten outside or treated differently because we have a puppy. Went here after reading the rave reviews and was left disappointed. Over priced and meh food. My son asked for poached eggs and got fried eggs. We were charged £2.75 for half an avocado as the black pudding could only be changed for a full English breakfast item. The waiter told me the vegetable lasagne included mixed vegetables. At £14 I asked if that included aubergine, courgette etc. He replied yes. What I got was a half sunken lasagne with no identifiable vegetables. There was a green mush like substance which looked like they had used salad leaves instead of actual vegetables. I spent £40 for our lunch and left feeling over charged and completely disappointed. Absolutely love it here – it’s one of those rare places that instantly makes you feel welcome. This is more than just a café; it’s a proper community hub where the atmosphere is always warm and friendly. You can tell a lot of care goes into everything they do, from the service to the food.

Speaking of the food, it’s a real step up from your average café fare. The quality is consistently excellent, and everything is cooked fresh to order. I especially love the full breakfast – it’s generous, perfectly cooked, and really hits the spot. The eggs royale is another favourite of mine: rich, fresh, and absolutely delicious every time.
