Where do I start,my husband and I where visiting the peak district today and after reading some of the reviews we decided to choose here ,what a big mistake I don't know where to start We sat after ordering our coffees, one black with oat milk, after waiting 30 mins I asked could we have our drinks, dishes remained on our table from the previous customers. Our drinks arrived with cows milk ,to which I a cannot have dairy You say on your website you pride yourselves on fresh top quality ingredients.Yet I sat their and listened to a microwave pinging every few minutes. The beef I ordered you took out the freezer and I watched the young girl, put it in the microwave in the plastic folder and defrosted it.I then went up to you all and said I cannot eat the beef which you have just defrosted in the plastic I have been very unwell these last 12 months and im conscious of what i am putting in my body .At not one point did any of you wear gloves i watched you take out the meat from the microwave with your fingers. And then you held up the gluten free bread , in the air and asked, your colleagues is this the gluten free bread to which the other girl touched it with her fingers.I just couldn't believe what I was seeing .After waiting for 50 minutes for a toastie the couple sitting at the window who were also fed up waiting gasped with their mouths open I then told them I had waited for an hour for this,I couldn't eat it, it was inedible when I peeled back the toast to see what you called a piece of beef.At this point the couple got up and walked out.I Then asked you to take it away as I couldn't eat it, and that I had waited an hour for something i could have rustled up in minutes. Your staff are inexperienced and stood round chatting whilst you had 5 people waiting for food and drinks.I really hope today was a one off experience, and i hope the manager takes on board my comments and tries to make sure that this dosent happen again as we fully support and encourage...
Read moreMy partner and I were on the hunt for somewhere new — but local — to enjoy a nice breakfast. After a bit of searching, we stumbled across Clockwork Café in the charming historic town of New Mills. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted by a lovely rustic atmosphere that immediately felt welcoming.
The menu offered a great variety of food and drinks, with plenty to choose from for any craving. After some back and forth (and a few changes of mind), we decided on the Big Ben and Little Ben breakfasts, paired with a mocha each.
Our drinks arrived impressively fast — quicker than most Starbucks runs — and the coffee was spot on. No cheap beans here! A few minutes later, our breakfasts arrived, and they were just as perfect. Tasty, well-cooked, and clearly made with care.
What really stood out, aside from the food and coffee, was the staff. They were incredibly friendly and happy to chat about the area, which added a really personal touch to the visit.
As for the prices — honestly, they were more than fair. I would’ve happily paid more for what we got. It's a real gem, tucked away at the end of the main street, and a refreshing surprise we’re so glad we found.
If you find yourself in New Mills and want a great spot for breakfast or just a quality coffee, I’d absolutely recommend making your way to Clockwork Café. You won’t be...
Read moreNO VEGAN OPTIONS. Popped in as we had seen a review online that they had some vegan options, but when we went in, I couldn't see any on the menu. I asked the waitress if they did, her response was ''I don't know, you'll have to ask up at the counter''. This waitress then proceeded to go up and just stand there behind the counter amongst three other people, even though there was dirty tables everywhere needed to be cleaned. I asked another girl behind the counter if they had any, she said ''there might be a mushroom and chestnut soup'' and asked the older women if they did. The older woman said ''err where's the menu, erm no sorry I don't think we do''. Disappointing that nobody seemed to be educated in their own menu, unorganised and it's 2024 how can places still not have at least one...
