As soon as you walk downstairs to this cosy little restaurant, you feel right at home. The quality of food matches their genuine joy in serving their customers. Black tie or jeans and a shirt, this is a place that certainly welcomes any occassion. With their incredible service, comes the most beautiful scallops I've ever had... no pictures as I ate the far too quickly... along with the most moarish lobster ravioli. My partner had the lamb with a rosemary and red wine sauce l, this is a place not to be missed! My poor quality photos don't do it justice.

Had a lovely meal here last night with my daughter and partner. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The menu will cater for everyone’s needs whether vegan or vegetarian a lot of choice. Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of my food only the dessert. The food is very fresh and tastes delicious had the tiramisu for dessert the best I have eaten was delicious. Would definitely recommend a visit to anyone. The prices are also very reasonable for the quality of food you receive a first class Italian restaurant.

I visited Glossop for the day, and this restaurant came highly recommended by a local — it did not disappoint. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, and I can’t emphasize enough how impressed I was with the quality and flavors. The staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and accommodating, which made the experience even more enjoyable. A truly fantastic dining experience — highly recommended!

Meh…

I had heard mixed reviews regarding the food and décor, but Napoli and O Sole Mio were my all-time favourite places to eat and Napoli has been open so long on the Square now that it was only right that we should go!

We booked for two on Valentine’s evening. To be honest, when we walked in it was a little bit drab. You wouldn’t have thought it was Valentines day, just a few small paper hearts hanging from the ceiling. Other tables had little heart confetti on, but not ours? There was a candle but no flowers or ambience, it was pretty dull. The table was wobbly and really small too, once we had a drink, glass of wine and plates on there, not much room for anything else, my handbag was on the floor at my feet!

Service was OK, drinks took a while so as soon as the first order came, we ordered the same again. Wine was lovely, we ordered the Merlot, very nice and very drinkable. The food… I gave Napoli a rating of 3 because we have mixed reviews.

For starters my partner had Costolette Di Maiale (marinated ribs) and he enjoyed them, tender and tasty. However, I had the Cozze Alla Marinara (mussels in tomato) and if I tell you it was bland that would be an understatement. It was like eating tasteless mussels covered in Heinz tomato soup overloaded with chilli. The piece of toast on the side tasted stale. Two of my mussels I was served hadn’t even opened the shell, so I was technically served something completely inedible.

For mains my partner ordered Rib Eye Steak – not much can go wrong with that and it was cooked perfectly, it was served with chips which were nice and a side salad. I ordered the Crab Ravioli – yuk! I do not recommend this dish. 6 round serving of ravioli swimming in a pool of what looked like boiling water with oil floating on top, it certainly didn’t taste of anything, with what tasted like tuna sprinkled on top. I have no idea what was inside the ravioli, but it definitely was not as described on the menu. It was like a white mushy scrambled egg, not very pleasant.

For desert I ordered something not on the menu – chocolate ice-cream with an expresso and Sambuca poured onto it. It tasted amazing, but the portion of ice-cream could have been served with a teaspoon it was so small, so very disappointing.

I didn’t make a fuss or complain while we were there because we were out together and the company far exceeded to restaurant so I didn’t want to spoil our evening out. But I certainly would not ever recommend Napoli and we will never visit Napoli in the future, which is a shame because I used to...

Mid-Week Winters Delight

From a bitterly cold winter evening to the warm ambiance of the Napoli. Welcome to our first outing for 2022. First time visit, nicely spaced out tables and a far from dingy basement. Nicely decorated. Only a few diners in during mid-week, which is good because it allows you to chat ‘normally’ whilst been attended to by the excellent table service.

Drinks: Chardonnay & soda, Lager

Starters: Polpette al Sugo (x2) My foodie partner reminded me that she ordered a Tagliatelle version of this at a previous venue and it was really enjoyed. I mentioned at the time that it did indeed look good and vowed to try it at a later date. That date is now. It was almost a meal in itself, the meatballs were of a good size in a rich tomato sauce. Also served with lightly toasted bread. Really enjoyed, by the both of us.

Main: Cannelloni Al Forno. Lobster Ravioli.

The Cannelloni is one of my foodie partners favourite dishes, served nicely hot. It was devoured with relish. First time trying the Lobster Ravioli for me. My Grandson who has been here before said the Ravioli itself was ‘to die for’, I certainly cannot argue with that – superb. This dish, though seemed scant of the Lobster meat, belied itself. Finely diced and pulped it blended well with the crab meat and given the ‘WOW’ factor when served with the chilli, blanc wine and garlic sauce. Served hot, it really livened up my taste buds. I liked the idea, though possibly not intended as a ‘pauser’ that the dishes were served hot. It allowed the aroma to be taken in AND allowed pauses during the eating to have a good conversation with your partner.

There was one slight downside during the evening. There was a group of four young girls dining who seemed to be oblivious to how loud they were, both in talk and their sometimes high pitched laughter. They were there from when we entered and were still there when we left some 90 minutes later, still being quite high spirited. A birthday party maybe, ok not a big issue. They enjoyed themselves as much as my foodie partner and I.

A return visit, yes. I would like to see how the service is when the place has more diners. Certainly top marks...

Been coming to Naopli in Glossop from over in Stalybridge for about 5 or 6 years now (minor intermission for covid lockdown aside). We first happened across the place when having spent a day at the coast, we didn't fancy cooking and my wife did a search on the Internet and booked us in here. We've probably eaten here 20 times over the last 5 or 6 years and always thoroughly enjoy it. Napoli is a little hidden away downstairs off Norfolk Sq. There is always a good atmosphere and we always leave happy (and full). Food is excellent, usually a couple of additional starter / main course choices on the specials board and an excellent range for carnivores, pescaterians and vegans alike.

Most recent visit was for an Xmas eve meal with family, and as ever, the steak, lobster ravioli, chicken risotto were excellent as were the starters and desserts (the home made Tiramisu is a particular favourite) Good job we parked downhill from the restaurant as walking uphill could have been a struggle after everything we ate.

Value is very good indeed given the excellent quality. The restaurant is fairly compact but comfortable nonetheless. The kitchen is an open kitchen and the work rate of the kitchen team (which often includes the owner) is unbelievable. Staff are always friendly, helpful and efficient.

One of our firm favourites to which we will...
