This was my second visit, and while I liked the atmosphere and food, the long wait times are a major issue. Last time, the wait was 45 minutes, which was understandable due to the place being busy. However, today, despite the pub being quiet, we waited over an hour for our food.
Additionally, one person in our group cannot eat spicy food due to a health condition and chose a wrap that didn’t list any spicy ingredients. Unfortunately, an ingredient, the tomato sauce, turned out to be spicy. While we appreciated the kitchen offering to replace the dish, we were charged for both the uneaten dish and the replacement.
We were disappointed, especially since the menu didn’t indicate that the sauce was spicy, unlike many other places that make this clear. Overall, the food was decent but overpriced, and the service needs significant improvement, particularly regarding wait times. If they were going to charge for the uneaten dish, it should have been left on the table for someone else in the group to eat.
Unfortunately, the lack of clear communication and the way the issue was handled has left us reluctant to return.
UPDATE: I was contacted by the manager John, who handled the matter in an excellent and professional way. Not every manager would have taken the time to communicate so clearly and offer a fair solution. Of course, the issue did happen, but on a return visit to The Oakwood, the service was excellent. I really appreciated the way it was dealt with — it made a...
Read moreDishonest and cheeky place! The ryanair of pubs. (Edit: they’ve removed their original response!! I wonder why 🤔🤔)
Ordered some chips (burger cost 13 quid and didn’t include them), and they stuff paper at the bottom of the pot to make it look like they’ve given you more than they have!
Never seen anything like this, it felt very cheeky and tainted an otherwise 6/10 bang-average-pub-food-that’s-only-a-notch-above-spoons experience. Burgers say they come with salad but they came with literally one (one) tomato. Bear in mind you had to pay 4 quid extra to have chips with your burger, you have to pay 70p for sauce.
Just be honest with your customers! I know the margins are tight in the hospitality industry these days but how much money are you making off tricks like that? I’m sure charging more, putting more chips in the pot, or just having smaller containers for the chips are better alternatives than making the customer feel cheated.
Food here isn’t good enough to justify the price, pints are expensive and they hadn’t even cleared our table and we were 10 minutes late. I don’t normally put negative reviews but I just thought places like this are taking spaces away from...
Read moreAn interesting local with a good selection of lagers and ales. The food has some interesting choices on the menu. The menu does change often though which can be hit and miss. The bar is often occupied by their bar & kitchen staff taking a break who distract the working staff and doesn't give a very professional experience; due to this it often means if we are in a group we are better off moving into another area. The overall layout can be quite cramped and loud, especially as the hours go on into the night. Decent stop for a couple of pints but always ends up too packed and often you have to leave your table as they allow reservations which can get very irritating once you're settled.
