Old school real ale boozer next to the railway station in Glossop. Ideal for meeting friends. It was buzzing when me and the missus popped in for one. Loads of people nattering, just the way I like it. A proper chatting pub. A few ales on offer, the one I had was a session pale and was lovely. Basic decor nowt fancy. Recommended… 🍺 🍻 🚃

This is very much an old-fashioned quiet local pub - they're getting hard to find! I love the Monday evening music sessions. Lots of Scottish and Irish music, plus a sprinking of other tunes and songs. The beer's great and not expensive, and the service is fast and friendly too.

Really friendly staff, fantastic ale at the right price! Really friendly locals! If a little more dusting of cobwebs and surfaces was done, then this would be a 5 star pub in my opinion, that's all it takes! However, it's doing enough to make this my local if I lived here! 😊

The essence of The Star is that it doesn't try to be all things to all men and women. No distracting TV or loud blaring music that kills conversation (just good nostalgic background sounds at the right volume).

Landlord Paul knows his target market and delivers every time, with a superb range of cask ales that are rotated regularly, although staple favourites such as Citra IPA and Timothy Taylor's Landlord or Boltmaker feature regularly. I prefer pale ale, so Citra, White Rat, NZ Pale or Sambra (from Chadkirk brewery) and Rooster's Variations, among numerous others, have all gone down well. You'll be spoilt for choice.

That's not to say that they aren't many other options. If you enjoy a darker brew, the Plum Porter seems to go down well. And of course, spirit drinkers are also very well catered for. A Brockman's G&T anyone?

It's also good to see Paul, who prides himself on serving well-kept quality beers, making the most of what local breweries have to offer, including the nearby Howard Town, by making their beers available to customers at a fair price. Staff regulars Tom, Anne and Shannon all provide good, knowledgeable service with a smile.

The Star is by far the best real ale pub in Glossop and well worth a visit if you are a little further it, too. It's literally next door to Glossop station.

Do yourself a favour and pay a...

If you love real ale this is the place for you in Glossop. Next to the Rail Station, and close to town centre shops, banks, takeaways, cafes, restaurants, the post office etc. A small pub where meeting friends and conversation is the main focus for regular customers. Hand pumped real ales; usually 4 are rotated so that there is a choice from different breweries. Pale ales predominate but stouts and porters also feature regularly. The beers are kept well and turnover is rapid so the ales are invariably in prime condition. The usual array of other quality drinks are also available. There are two rooms, outdoor benches and in addition a small smoking area. There is wheelchair access into the pub, and into The Ladies. There is a small step down to The Gents and separate smoking...
