We came here for dinner during our stay in Steyning. It's a classic, traditional High Street pub. There's a pay&display car park just around the corner (free of charge in the evenings). It really feels and looks like a pub you'd imagine. Nice, dark atmosphere. Carpets, fireplace, dark wood furniture. Really charming and feels warm and welcome. And we did feel welcome. Staff was great, friendly and helpful. Our Bulldog was welcome as well! Ordered Cod Bites and Salt & Pepper Squid. A Burger with fries as well. And a coke...I was driving. Took a while until the order arrived (staff told us when we ordered it'll take a while). But the wait was worth it. It's really nice, homemade, freshmade food. Cod and Squid still both hot and crispy. The Burger had a nice grilled flavour to it. A good quality meat patty. It's a nice place to grab a bite, very good value (cod and squid only at 5£ each). Friendly folks, nice atmosphere. Good food.

LOVED this wonderful pub we were lucky to find and stay at in Steyning. Newley taken over by landlords Emma and John who were the most welcoming hosts. Great atmosphere - 10/10 English breakfast! Traditional locals pub at the heart of the community - can’t wait to go back!

BEWARE

This is a pub that we go to on a regular basis. However, the past couple of times we have been there, it has gone downhill. A group of 4 of us went there last night for drinks and food. The service for the drinks was slow but acceptable. For food we ordered one main course, one starter and 5 minutes after that order, a portion of chips was also ordered. The starter and main took ages to arrive, (the salt and pepper squid and the vegan burger). Unbelievably, as the server brought the squid across, the landlord/lady/manager? called him across and promptly took one of the pieces of squid off our plate and ate it! The server then brought the plate to our table. Obviously, we sent the plate back and told them we wanted it replaced with a fresh portion. Again, we waited ages before it arrived. About maybe 1 hour after ordering the chips, they still hadn't arrived (the pub was not busy, actually very empty for a Saturday night) we complained about the time taken for the chips, maybe 10 minutes later they finally arrived. So our gripes in summary, exceedingly slow service and a manager who thinks it's acceptable to eat food directly of a customers plate. No wonder it was...
