I recently had a really bad experience at this place when I ordered the full English breakfast. The mushrooms were literally swimming in oil, covering the whole plate. The bacon was burnt to a crisp, almost black, and the toast was drenched in butter. About ten minutes in, I started feeling pretty sick. I seriously thought I was going to throw up, and I probably would have if I wasn’t with family. Somehow, I managed to keep it down, but it was awful.
My friend got a jacket potato with tuna, and it was the same story—just full of butter. The bottom of the plate was practically flooded with it. She didn’t complain and just wiped the butter off, but she didn’t feel great after eating it either.
We talked to the waitress about all of this, and she wasn’t very helpful. She only offered a 20% discount on the English breakfast, saying I’d eaten most of it, which wasn’t true at all. I only ate the sausage, egg, and a tiny bit of the mushrooms. I left the bacon, beans, toast, and most of the mushrooms because they were just gross. The waitress didn’t seem to care and just mentioned that the chef is the owner, which didn’t help the situation at all.
Overall, it was a terrible experience, and I left feeling sick. I wish I had taken photos of the meal, but I was just so ready to leave that I didn’t even think about it. I’ve attached a picture of the receipt to show this is a real review. Definitely won’t...
Read moreReally disappointed given previous reviews. We called in just after they opened, there were plenty of staff on but having been given menu's I had to go in to ask if we could place our order - Farmers Feast breakfast (£14.95), bacon sandwich and Flat Whites. When the FW eventually came out (they took ages) the cups were over filled with coffee slopped in the saucers (these were lattes and not FW's). We were told by the waitress that the first coffees of the day are not very fluffy but they get better - figure! The Farmers Feast Breakfast was poor - volume over quality and very expensive for what it was. Many of the items were luke warm (mushrooms & beans), the eggs yokes were split, black pudding was dry and cold. The bacon sw - the thick cut bacon was scorched and the rind stringy - it should either have been rendered or cut off. We weren't sure if the bread was toasted or stale. No one came to ask how our meal was. They have a bizarre policy of asking you to pay when you order when sitting in their outside area - perhaps to avoid a dine & dash breakfast in Steyning! Totally perplexed given other reviews. Feeling ripped off -...
Read moreWhat an unusual, historical and quaint tea room! Tucked away behind the high street, down a beamed alleyway lined with unique shops, you'll find this hidden treasure. We sat in the outdoor seating area, which was nestled amongst artisan "shed shops". Despite the tea room being rather busy, you didn't feel over looked or squeezed in, rather that you had your own little nook of the cobbled garden. We ordered two full English breakfasts, which were very substantial, and we certainly couldn't have eaten more. I had a hot chocolate, which was absolutely delicious (I'm a bit fussy) so a big thumbs up from me. The only slight niggle, was the wrought iron table wasn't ideal to eat from as it had a natural spring whenever you pushed down on it to cut up your food and I very nearly lost my knife and fork through the large gaps in the metal strands... but I'm being picky. Would I go again, 100%, yes. I've already said I would like to bring my mum here for a...
