We have been using the white horse atleast once a month for the last 2 years since moving to Steyning and the food has always been of good quality and the service has been of what you would expect of a country pub using young staff giving them a chance to earn some money while the majority are probably at college ect building their lives.

I was very disappointed tonight though when drink orders where repeatedly messed up at the bar and when my starter, the new Mussels in tomato sauce where hot in places and stone cold in others (I had a few then didn't want to complain as I've had alot of good meals at the white heart).

But, two other members of our party had the seafood sharing platter which they was still eating and the waitress asked them if they had finished which the reply was no, to what she awnsered "well, to give you the heads up, your main is on the way" to which a couple of minutes later the main was being delivered by a young gentleman.

I said to him "sorry, we haven't finished the starters yet" only to be told by this rude young gentleman that "you was told the main course was coming, I can stick it under the hot plate if you like but it will dry the food up"

My partner panicked as she hates confrontation and said its fine we will take it now and gave them the sharing board her and my brother in law where enjoying with food still left on it.

To add insult to injury, my steak I ordered well done was only cooked medium and I hate blood and the tiniest amount of sauce. Pictures to be attached.

The food was really bad since the refurb and the service was dreadful and has really put us off going to a place...

Although a resident of Steyning for nearly four years now, we had not tried the White Horse due to several poor Google reviews.

Recently when my in-laws were visiting we decided to go for lunch, at the White Horse as it is the nearest pub to where we live at around ten minutes walk.

From the moment we entered the pub atmosphere was friendly and the staff attentive. We all ordered different meals and each upon arrival looked scrumptious, even better they all were cooked to perfection and tasted incredible.

I had the liver and bacon and as is well known it can often be hit and miss with the liver overcooked and tough. However my liver and bacon at the White Horse was sublime, the dish had a twist to the traditional liver and bacon one might expect it was a complete surprise and by a huge margin exceeded my expectations, so much so that I can easily state that it was the best liver and bacon I have ever had.

The other meals ordered by those accompanying me were of equal quality and whilst admittedly it is not the cheapest pub in Steyning to eat at, the quality of the food we received justified the price and then some.

I appreciate that several other reviewers moaned about the prices and portions. The food we received no one left the table hungry and I have a healthy appetite. If you want bland pie and chips or Sausage and mash for around a fiver then you probably should look else where but if you are after delicious well cooked food that will cost more than five pounds then try the White Horse you will...

The White Horse Smokehouse and Grill in Steyning is a great pub / restaurant. Part of the Greene King chain a proud company with a 200 year strong history in the industry. The White Horse Smokehouse and Grill was a great choice of venue for my family to attend.

We went to The White Horse Smokehouse and Grill as my mother lives close by and we thought it would be a great way to start the Christmas festivities. The venue is very nicely decorated and extremely welcoming. The staff where very polite and professional despite it being Christmas eve and they where working.

I ordered two children’s meals and I found these to be a good size and cooked very well. Kids being kids wanted slightly different from the menu options. The staff where happy to make these changes for us with no fuss. The kids portions where slightly too big for my two daughters but by the looks on their faces they were annoyed they could not fit any more in. The adult food was equally cooked very well, we all ended up swapping bits of food as it all tasted so nice we wanted to get the most out of it. All in all I would highly recommend The White Horse Smokehouse and Grill is a great venue for food and drink. Aprox £20 per head for main and drink which I thought was very reasonable for the quality of the food alone. Keep up the...

Stopped at Steyning last Saturday and checked this pub. Unfortunately the experience was not the best… the pub had some customers but was not crowded (there were some couples if tables left), so I ordered a couple of nibbles/tapas to share only to after pre-paying for all to then one of the staff members come to the table informing that the food will be delayed (ended up coming over 35 mins after). When asked if at least then could bring the bread and butter, they said that was not possible and that everything will come together. When the nibbles/tapas arrived, was for great surprise about the portions (when compared with the price paid), specially with the toasted bread that had 4 mini-slices. When asked to the staff about if that was all the bread or if would be any chance of bringing a bit more to try the dippings, their reply was that “these are the portions we now have due to the costs of living”. Not necessarily that we needed to eat more, but when you end up paying 4£ for 4 mini-slices of (hard) toasted bread and butter (that is not even fresh), you can only expect better. I believe that the only good mention were the nachos, that had a good size portion for the price. Drinks price was average. Unfortunately it’s not a place that I would go back.

I always start with 3 stars and increase or decrease due experience. We were part of a wedding party of thirty. I arrived early to enjoy a bowl of home made chips from the very friendly staff. Best chips I have had as a snack(home made, no frozen muck). The service was exceptional and the food was perfect, i didn’t hear one complaint except for the drinks not being cold enough. Maybe keeping glasses in a chiller would help. On the downside, although the wedding reception room was adequate, it had be shared with non wedding guests as the only toilet downstairs was for disabled use. Given how busy it was some were waiting a while for access. Toilets were upstairs and clean. its a long narrow bar, so when it is busy it can feel claustrophobic and the seating furniture is not padded and very uncomfortable. There is seating outside too, again not comfortable. Parking is scarce so on busy days that is problematic. Overall, i would definitely recommend this establishment for the food. The service is excellent and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming.
