I thought I would give this establishment a try on New Year's Eve following publicity I have seen in the local press. I was after a white sandwich loaf of which there wasnāt any left or they may not have baked any that particular day. I was explained the differences of what I could have but unfortunately I could not understand the assistant through her mask and a colleague explained. I went to pay with cash but they were only taking cards, everywhere else I have been recently are taking cash! How are young personās supposed to buy anything in there. There may be pre-paid cards available for young people but not everyone will have one. I purchased a large loaf of which was probably 50/50 white/brown and found it extremely difficult to cut despite having sharp knives. The bread itself was very filling and on slice equated to about 4 slices in my opinion. My overall impression was not good and a wider selection of bread would be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI cycled 36 miles to experience Gwyns and it didnāt disappoint!!! It has, however, ruined me for any type of pastry. The skill and dedication are incredible and ridiculously apparent: this is true passion! I tried the Fruit danish, of which I snaffle outside the shop and almost cried when it was over. The white chocolate pain au chocolate was a highlight of my all time pastry memory. Linseed frangipani?!?!! Amazing. The sourdough is heaven. But my most favourite thing would have to be the cinnamon buns that transported me back to Sweden. I wish I could visit more often- Horsham, you have an absolute gem. I am also so relieved to see the measures to make Gwynās COVID safe- card payment only (which is excellent for cleanliness), safety screens, and a spotless shop. Friendly, passionate staff and a wonderful...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve walked past here many times over the past year, and often wondered what was so special. Today, I had time to spare and decided to take a look and perhaps treat myself. After a quick chat with the person working at the tills (who seemed reluctant to talk), I decided on a Sussex loaf and he chose one and put it in a bag for me. Ā£4.50 is a lot more than I usually pay for a loaf of bread so I walked home with great expectation. When I got it out of the bag, it was a shock to see it was so black (burnt?), is it supposed to be like that? My bread knife had a job to break through the crust and a serious struggle to get through the base of it. The taste didnāt really do much for me either, so I guess that this sourdough thing isnāt for me. Iām actually quite...
